"June likely to be among Europe's hottest on record as heatwave brings new temperature highs"
#Europe #Climate #ClimateChange
Extremely hot day in the Netherlands again, especially in the South. In over a century of records until 2019, no station in the country had ever reached a temperature of 39°C.
Today was the third time the city of Maastricht saw it happen, and this was by far the earliest in summer for any station.

I know the Londoners are going to look at this and laugh as they slowly melt into a pile of sweaty ooze, but trust me, this is starting to feel unpleasantly warm for Up North.
It's got slightly less humid as the day has worn on though.

Not your typical early summer evening here in the central Netherlands...
And a bit warmer in the city of Utrecht. But bicycle commuters still cycle home :)
More scientific post to follow when I cooled down a bit.

Been a bit under the weather physically for a week or so, and I don't know if it's partly literally a weather thing or what. It feels like maybe the heatwave unsettled my system, and triggered a little echo of the dysautonomia I had after covid. Could be there was a connecting factor of getting slightly dehydrated, could just be the heat itself and the bodily effort of keeping cool.

Spent my nervous energy preparing for the #nyc #heatwave making myself a wool coozie for my tall cans.
Check on your friends, family, and neighbors.
Designate a cool room in your home — no need to cool the whole house with a/c. Draw your shades/blinds.
Take it easy outside. Have a non electric plan for cooling down (cool shower/pool/ spray cap in a park or hydrant— fans — cool drink).

Harley and I just completed a short walk around our new community of Belle Ewart. Temperature is 29°C but really muggy. Got back to our temporary residence a bit sweaty and thirsty, but thankfully, it has air conditioning. I might have to check out our local community beach after lunch. Stay cool out there, Ontarians.

Looong train ride, and a very long EV drive later and we have arrived in the Alps.
It's 20C and raining.

We may have been too successful in escaping the current European #Heatwave.
😅
The current #HeatWave is fun to see how it impacts my #kubernetes #cluster #node
I do not understand why folks aren’t mildly freaking out on the extended forecasts for #NYC
Seriously #HeatWave
To have five days (!!!5 days !!!) of over 100degF
Check on your neighbors.
Prepare now for no or low power. Get your spritzer and battery powered electric fans.
We will get through this together. But it will be easier with a little bit of planning.
Where is your NYC cooling center??

Good to see Tiago Forte talking about this. A lot of people read his stuff.
(He's a writer/teacher best known for the "Building a Second Brain" framework.)
"It was that summer when climate change stopped being an abstract concept and became viscerally personal for me. I realized that this wasn’t a one-time freak event—every summer we could expect deteriorating air quality from rampant wildfires. ...
"This convergence of physical heat, failing infrastructure, and human vulnerability isn’t just a temporary inconvenience. It’s a preview of the fundamental challenge that Jeff Goodell explores in The Heat Will Kill You First, a book that forced me to confront an uncomfortable truth: all our routines for productive living and working are built on the assumption of a stable climate. It no longer makes sense for me to teach people how to build productive systems without taking into account the increasing instability of our wider environment."
