Bei der Migration habe ich ein paar logische Schwachstellen gefunden, die ich noch stopfen muss.

Well, it's about time I got started on my latest self-hosted project: Home Assistant. Luckily, I've had an RPi 4 for a while now, so I'm saving myself the money these gadgets cost these days.
First stop: automating the lighting system.
Next stop: smart irrigation system.

So, der erste Schritt zur ~"Smart Library" mit HomeAssistant ist gemacht - Testbetrieb Temperaturmessung (via Zigbee).
Da kommen natürlich schnell neue Ideen. Aber bin überrascht, dass es scheinbar keine Lautstärkesensoren (Zigbee oder sonst wie "smart") gibt. Wäre doch toll als Lärmampel.

Finally managed to hook my #GoogleNest in #HomeAssistant.
If you are in the same situation, remember to remove *all* Google credentials first. Home Assistant doesn't allow org accounts, only regular ones. I had Google Drive with my main account, which is in my own org.

A big advantage of home automation / #homeassistant is that you can remotely mess up and accidentally defrost your fridge because somehow the smart plug it is connected to is turned off while applying a software update. Bonus points for doing so while away for multiple weeks. Ask me how I know.

Was mir bei #Homeassistant richtig fehlt, ist eine Möglichkeit, den Speicherverbrauch einzelner Integrationen tracken zu können.
Ich kann das nur indirekt, indem ich einzeln Integrationen deaktiviere und dann abwarte, die Differenz bilde und dann grob abschätze - aber das ist überhaupt nicht das, was ich benötige.
Ich würde wirklich gern wissen, wie viel Speicher eine Integration…

I'm planning to set up a music room for $SPOUSE. Neither of us are audiophiles.
Looking for recommendations for amps that support Airplay, and work well with #HomeAssistant.
Must haves:
- local control - I don't want something that will have issues if its mothership turns off servers, or even just because my internet is out.
- AirPlay support
- Works well with Home Assistant
- Supports unpowered speakers
- Doesn't require an app to configure it
Nice to have
- Streaming support
- IOS app for control
Also looking for disrecommendations for stuff that doesn't work well with HA.

Ich habe gestern Abend den #Homeassistant doch wieder auf PostgreSQL als recorder-Backend umgestellt, weil die SQLite-Datei geradezu explodiert ist (23 GB nach anderthalb Monaten) und das System immer langsamer wurde.
Außerdem habe ich ltss hinzugefügt, damit die reguläre PostgreSQL-Datenbank schnell und einigermaßen klein bleibt.

Upgraded Home Assistant from 2026.2.2 to 2026.3.3 last night and it stopped reading the status of my zigbee devices via MQTT.
I'm running HAOS in a proxmox VM and zigbee2mqtt 2.1.1 in a docker container hosted in a different physical with a ConBee2 radio.
To check connectivity issues I had the integration listen for # and saw state updates for my zigbee sensors.
What finally fixed it was going into zigbee2mqtt's settings and disabling and re-enabling Home Assistant integration.

FYI all, portainer is giving away 3 node business licenses. #kubernetes support since the last time I visited their site, so I'm interested in checking how well that interacts with #talos.
Some of my #homelab machines currently just run a few containers in #docker_compose stacks for services my #homeassistant server is using like node red and I've been using #portainer for simple things like checking status or restarting things without having to ssh into those workers. Most of those containers are going to get migrated into my #k8s cluster, so it'll be interesting to see how well it works as a quick web interface.
