The remotes of that era are why we call remotes "clickers."
They operated by sound, with tuned rods being tapped in a reproducible way that always made the same 'clicks' at specific tones that the TV could detect across a room.

Part of me wants to hop in the car and drive west to find a "dangerous" beach for some bodysurfing.
That part does not include my right side chest wall, in which some number of muscles did something painful and abrupt when I lifted Kyle into his chair. I can feel the endorphins trying to spare me...
