Started reading "Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers" by Jesse Q. Sutanto, and I'm having repetitive generational shocks.
The main character is being described as an old woman with wrinkles and her shop like it's from the 1950s, but this takes place now, and she has a Gen Z son, so she's probably no older than 60. She probably wasn't even born yet in the 1950s.
I just keep getting yanked out of the story thinking, "She's not old. She can't be much older than me and I'm young and hip and of the current generation. Everyone younger than me is but a child.
I mean, yes, when I was young, 60 was ancient, but not anymore. Heck, Marissa Tomei's 62 this year, and she's young Aunt May. Not old at all!
