LFC have looked good this half. Some creativity and movement. Rough day to have no strikers at all. Gakpo is toiling, but he's not the right fit up there.
#LFC
Field is slippery. Several #LFC players losing footing.
This will be Slot's fault too.
#LFC
#lfc
Rio and every other fucker other than one are totally confused by that.
Brace for the captain. Did he call off Ibou?
#LFC
How both Digne and Buendia aren't on a yellow is baffling to me.
#LFC
Ugh. Looks like achilles to me. This season is a layer of hell.
#LFC
Shot on target within 7' and better energy everywhere. First goal will be EVERYTHING.
#LFC
#lfc
This has Macalister either with Man of the Match or a red card.
Chiesa, maybe, for Gakpo in the second half? He couldn't be much worse. The cupboard is bare.
#LFC
Marmadashvilli is terrible. Just terrible.
Villa's scouting was excellent... not pace, but placement.
#LFC
Ngumoha, 17, already understands an underlap/overlap better than Gakpo. Finds Kerkez on a blistering run for a decent cross.
#LFC
Great ball in from Szoboszlai and there is the possibility for VAR to disallow a goal and you know they love to do that. It's a goal.
#LFC
Why not blow the offside whistle there? Marmadashvilli shouldn't panic clear the ball, but the advantage played is clearly not an advantage.
#LFC
#lfc
Offside
Good idea form Gravenberch and Isak, but the timing is just off. Promising look when the press is broken by the quick lay off and a driving run.
#LFC
I have to time-shift the second half. Hoping energy levels stay like this. It was a strong first half.
Shout out to Konate, who was excellent.
✊ #LFC
Even PGMOL couldn't round this one down, but god how they tried. That was a looong look for a snapshot decision in which we have SAOT to help with exactly that.
#LFC
No foul at all, on the heels of a no call for being overrun from behind. The officiating had been good, largely, but that is not a good series of moments for Kavanagh.
#LFC
If Alisson does leave, Marmadashvilli has shown us he is clearly not the solution. That's a fine save, but his positioning, footwork, reluctance to be a sweeper. All of it has made my mind up.
#LFC
Marmadashvilli did very well with two awkward situations. One criticism I've had with him so far is that he has shown reluctance to be full sweeper/keeper. This shows he can do it (or is working on it)
#LFC
We will miss Curtis Jones. His leaving is a a place in which I'm very critical of the management. I will never understand why Mac Allister gets more regular play than Jones. I can only hope that Mac Allister gets right in the offseason, but for me, the wrong guy is going out the door.
#LFC
Van Dijk's declining speed means the backline discipline is not consistent. The shape is skewed because he sags to prevent being exposed by speedier players and it instead allows space in behind on the flanks.
Chiesa thought he had played it correctly and was stunned to find Digne onside.
#LFC
Interesting to watch when Frimpong needs cover in behind and Konate rotates over, Ibou stays on to cover Kvaratskhelia after the ball is cycled back rather than releasing and recovering.
I wonder if they are concerned about the delayed run after the initial threat looks to have been resolved.
#LFC
Dear god. It's never in open play, but in the jagged moments in between. A slip and fall, a series of ludicrous rebounds, a corner developing into a second effort in which the players fail to close down.
Villa are good, but this is absolute charity for their offense. And every single case is just a failure to execute very basic things.
#LFC
I also think they missed badly on Marmadashvilli. I had kept an open mind for a while, but his unwillingness to come out and collect long balls and his panic booting the ball downfield have been concerns. Villa had great shot placement today, but many of those felt like other keepers (not just Alisson) would have reached them.
He was dreadful today.
#LFC
#lfc
I gave up watching during the first half, not because I'm a fair weather follower but because disorganised bagatelle playing, every pass too hard or too soft isn't about the players but the preparation and the plan, or lack of it.
I'm glad that they got better organised but they were playing against a side who's manager understands the team and whom the team trust. …
#lfc
Utd are very open at the back and get separated from their midfield at times.
But jumping into the goalkeeper shouldn't get rewarded.
#lfc
The only player for Arsenal I'm envious of is Gabriel, I know it would be greedy to have both and probably unwise given the relative age...
#lfc
Slot manages games confusingly, to me, but also to the team. It's a feeling of neither stick nor twist. He doesn't like the quarterback game he thinks it's low % football and seems to prefer the two passes forward, one sideways, backwards, forwards.
It's overly safe.
I accept the Sala summation, Liverpool has always been better with high tempo, heavy metal pre…
Watched #LFC time-shifted. While Rio deservedly gets a lot of praise (and what a beauty of a goal!), it was Szoboszlai who grabbed the game by the collar and set the tempo. Imperious all over the pitch, mostly defensive efforts via a very intense work rate.
The midweek critique from Graeme Souness about the squad getting outworked was correct and today was a refutation. It can be done.
The …
#lfc
Fucking hell how did he miss the target.
Kelleher proves again what a dumb loss that was.
#lfc
Frimpong is not Salah, but then he's not meant to be. He's fast, frightens defenders but messy in the outcome.
Konate goes out quietly at the end of his. contract, at least he has the World Cup.
Wirtz seems lost.
#lfc
And Konate gets a slap in the face and Brentford get a free kick.
What a crap goal. My god.
#LFC
ZERO consistency in officiating.
#LFC
This call and yellow card is terrible.
#LFC
Mo has had a frustrating season, but with 0 shots in 35'... might be worth a first half sub.
#LFC
Konate with the Joel Matip probing run forward, which makes me happy. Sadly, Ekitike cannot/does not do anything with it.
#LFC
#lfc
Losing the goalkeeper is somewhat worse than losing a goal.
I thought Kerkez played well, overall. Contrast today against the beginning of the season and appreciate how much he's improved.
#LFC
There is really no argument here. It's a penalty. And, honestly, Konate has to try for something. At least Marmadashvilli has an honest chance at a save.
#LFC
It's a shocking turnover from Mac Allister but what on earth is Van Dijk doing on the coverage after? Abandons the wide open spot which becomes the shot to cover.... empty space?
#LFC
#lfc
Originally, i thought it part of an offside movement.
And so it was
Ugh. Good individual effort, at least, and a very well weighted pass into the half space. Some pretty suspect defending, despite having 5 to cope.
Time for the wilting (or maybe that goal was the start of it)
#LFC
Wow. I'm shocked. I thought Konate did get ball, but after contact with the plant leg first caused Zaire-Emery to naturally fall. That decision would NEVER happen in the EPL.
Complaints about the uneven refereeing now withdrawn.
#LFC
#lfc yes this is a Derby.
#lfc
Another Derby that the none-existent God puts their finger on the scale.
#lfc
While everyone is taking a breather before half time it's time for a goal.
#lfc
Is Isak actually on the field?
#lfc
There you go. That is more like it.
Time for a 5-0 game...
It’s clear why Wharton is such a desirable signing this offseason. He creates chances and is so calm in possession. 3 of the 5 big chances for Palace were his. His stat line for this game is stellar.
You see rumors of #LFC being in for him. United too. I hope LFC do go for him. Fantastic player and LFC need a proper DM.
To have 61% possession and be ahead in tackles and duels? This is the energy and commitment that has been missing.
To have only 3 shots on target out of 13 though? Need to find the net.
#LFC
FFS. Deflection is into the worst possible place. A Brentford player is in an offside position, also not affecting the goal. But unlike LFC versus City, it doesn’t matter.
#LFC
Given the recent form of both teams, I didn't have high expectations for this match. And I don't think trying to keep players behind the ball is the wrong strategy. PSG had a few moments, but largely they're ahead by a ludicrously fortunate deflection.
I do wish we'd see more take-ons from the front footed attackers and quicker decisions not to let a disciplined PSG recover their shape.
#LFC
Andy Madley hates Gakpo.
#LFC
Pesci up next? Can Curtis Jones also play GK?
#LFC
And this is not a penalty. Maybe the review will show what I don’t see.
#LFC
😮💨 strand-Larsen was offside, but they don’t know or don’t care.
#LFC
Brilliant counter and there you go Robbo! Fantastic ball in and world class placement.
#LFC
Hopefully this is a concern and not a hamstring tear. Mo Salah deserves a strong finish to his #LFC career.
Outrageous. You don’t have to play with class, by rule. But that’s definitely not class.
#LFC
Wirtz with a screamer on the half volley!
The football gods smile at the rebuke to the Munoz goal.
#LFC
lol at the immediate Anfield crowd justice. Hit Munoz with the ball from out of play as he prepares for the throw in.
#LFC
Fantastic outing for Curtis Jones. He was incredible at blunting a lot of Palace’s attack, dispossessing them repeatedly. And his assist was beauty and class
#LFC
Shocking lack of marking by Wirtz, who allowe Munoz to be free on the headed corner.
Brilliant save by Woodman. Should have been a goal and he bailed out the team.
Really liking what I see from him.
#LFC
But that’s a foul. Absolute nonsense. #LFC
Good win.
Woodman continues to impress. In my book that’s a clean sheet, even if technically not.
Jones was brilliant. My MOTM. I know he wants to start regularly and I don’t understand why Mac Allister is always preferred. But #LFC should not let him go.
Quietly another solid game from Konate. Really happy at his return to form.
Hope Salah’s hamstring is just sore and not tor…
Kelleher makes a great save. 😮💨
#LFC
Good officiating by Madley to give the yellow to Munoz after the play for dragging down a player during the counter.
That’s typically uncalled and I’ve noticed teams increasingly attempting it in a trailing player trying to join the rush.
#LFC
All the accuracy of imperial stormtroopers.
#LFC
An adjustment today to Crystal Palace’s setup and press has been to send the long ball into the channel for a flick-on header to a runner in space. Gakpo has been particularly excellent at finding his connecting runner.
It has opened up the game in a way Palace weren’t expecting.
#LFC
Absolutely huge save from Alisson! Marmadashvilli doesn’t make that save.
#LFC
Mac Allister’s shot was going well wide and Isak did really well to control it. Still fizzing about, it was a great first and second touch.
The funny thing is that he hasn’t been involved at all, with Crystal Palace choking possession through the midfield. But sometimes being out of rhythm is fortunate when the play goes chaotic.
#LFC
Darren England overlooks such a clear foul because Brentford have been lobbying him. Absolute rube.
#LFC
So unlucky. Was a brilliant shot from Salah and he’s looking really hungry. I hope he gets something.
#LFC
Salah has an assist if he lays that ball off to Jones, but you can forgive him for trying to score himself today.
#LFC
It’s a great outside the boot pass from Mo.
Neither Jones nor Salah seemed to celebrate in the moment. The doubt of the VAR decision? Odd.
#LFC
Not a foul on Jones and absolutely inconsistent to how the game has been officiated to this point. Darren England is constantly in the way. Ridiculous.
#LFC
Darren England is just terrible. That’s a penalty. You don’t have to make a challenge to come across and cut off a run.
VAR covers, naturally. Business as usual.
#LFC
And now we transition more. Of the major senior players, gone are Salah, Robbo.
Probably gone are Chiesa, Endo, and Gomez.
Maybe gone: Konate and possibly Jones? Mac Allister?
Upon consideration, I don’t know that this season represents the full transition. I think we’re still inside the chrysalis.
#LFC
Never a penalty, but it sure is sloppy.
#LFC
Won’t be sorry to see Minteh subbed out. He was brilliant.
#LFC
Far more likely to end 3-1 than 2-2. One team is dead on their feet.
#LFC
Kerkez lurking behind enemy lines to poach the backpass and loops in a beautiful goal to equalize.
#LFC
Brighton had three(!) free players attacking that cross. Central defenders both looking around confusedly. Got to get that sorted out ASAP.
#LFC
Minteh playing like he doesn’t believe a second yellow is possible. Aside from a dive, nothing has been egregious, but he’s accumulated enough to ask questions.
#LFC
I don’t like booing an injured player when they’ve clearly been injured. What is the claim, that Ekitike is faking an injury and time-wasting after only 7 minutes?
#LFC
As I was saying about crosses. Inept.
That’s on Van Dijk and it’s also basic stuff. Central defense must be a summer priority.
Also, Minteh is a hell of a player.
#LFC
The fatigue part is troubling. Slot presented the muscle overuse refutation to Klopp. Injuries were much reduced, and most this season have not been overuse.
But the counterpoint is that a more rested team should show more in late games and consistently #LFC flag. Conceding late goals & dropping so many points from them is damning. They didn’t today, but were outplayed in the second half by a…
First look at goal, so of course Brighton scores. Konate turned it over, but plenty of time to organize. Then Konate is pushed, but it’s not a foul. He has to be stronger in battling. He’s been so inconsistent this season. So talented, but makes basic mistakes that he didn’t in prior seasons.
#LFC
Gravenberch! Keeper is honestly playing great, but #LFC are playing lights out right now.
PK (and of course it's Szoboszlai making it happen)
#LFC
Great save, really. Salah had picked out the five hole.
#LFC
Szoboszlai! Who else? Not a free kick, but we will take it!
#LFC
