Since the Black Magic HDMI capture card seems to be the only card that reliably captures audio/video I grabbed an HDMI splitter. Works great, hasn't caught fire...two thumbs up so far.

So I solved my mac-mini conundrum. It turned out that the problem originated from using 'wrong' computer monitor (a monitor attached to a docking station). When I hooked up the computer directly to the screen everything worked fine when holding the alt button. #linux #homeserver

I love the Framework 13" laptop I have, but I'm not gonna lie: the Lenovo X1 that I have is just the perfect Linux laptop. Keyboard is amazing to type on and the Ctrl key is even in the right place on this model.

Been playing around with openSUSE TW on a laptop for a few days and noticed the battery life was horrendous.
Apparently I forgot about installing the trusted old tlp. All is now well.
I did also notice that tuned seemed to be the default, which zypper demanded to be uninstalled in order for tlp to be installed instead. Admittedly I hardly know the difference.

I would like to start a bi-weekly meeting for people who would like to try out #Linux. Guten Morgen,
seit vorgestern: Linux Mint 22.2 "Zara" ist draußen und ich würde das Update gern sofort anstoßen. Aber ich habe a) keine Zeit und b) dadurch natürlich auch keine Zeit, ein komplettes Image zu ziehen. Das muß aber sein, denn wie heißt es: Kein Backup, kein Mitleid! Aber in der Regel läufts problemlos durch, kein Thema.
So, heute nochmal richtig reinhauen und dann Wochenende (Wandern bayerischer Wald)

Windows 11 is joke. Random reboots are normal apparently. After ~15 years on Linux and MacOS only, I can't understand how anyone is using this.

Since migrating between storage devices is my new hobby, apparently, I now moved my /home directory back onto my SSDs in RAID1. The four HDDs in RAID10 are now my games drive. Nice and fast again. All devices are 1 TB.
What's cool about RAID10 is that it can be converted to RAID0 in-place. So when I out of game space and I don't care about keeping the install directories safe (mods, etc.), I can just double my capacity. Neat!

So, Compilierorgie beendet. Normalerweise mache ich jede Woche ein Upgrade, dann ist das in ca. 10 -12 Stunden beendet. Aber diesmal habe ich im July das letzte Upgrade gefahren und jetzt wieder. Das hat dann doch 2 Tage gedauert. Gut, das mensch während dieser Zeit den Computer normal benutzen kann. So, alles wieder gut, mal sehen, was es an Neuigkeiten gebracht hat. 👍

I love the fact that switching out a failing SSD just involved formatting the new SSD, copying the files over via `rsync`, powering off the computer, and swapping the new SSD in for the old one. I did have to make a minor tweak to the `fstab` because I decided to go with XFS, but the down time for the computer was only for as long as it took me to get the SSD swapped in.
