Between "Automated protocol deliverability probe" and "Hi! I'm a developer interested in decentralized platforms. I'd love to join to follow tech discussions. Thanks!", I have had to disable registrations on my instance.
The spammers made my SMTP email delivery bill over 15x higher and just blocking the domains isn't an option because they were using providers like gmail.com and icloud.com, and the spammers addresses were receiving that much stuff my failed delivery rates went up.

Earlier it was Tencent. Now it's Baidu (202.46.48.0/20) getting an iptables block from phpc.social because I like having decentralized social media reachable more than I like them scraping it for their LLMs or whatever (sorry Alibaba, had "Qwen" here a second ago, but I'll block y'all too if you try this crap).

Happy that my personal #selfhost instance has been solid since moving the database and redis to my external host. The mastodon install is still on #footiMac under my stairs but it talks to the external for db/redis stuff. I might move redis back to the local machine as a docker image to keep that part more local, maybe? but it’s not a priority.
Just happy things have stabilized!
