Siberia's growing methane threat could offset 20% of global methane reduction targets by 2050
The Arctic is warming at an accelerating pace. As permafrost thaws across vast areas and wildfires become more frequent, large amounts of methane (CH4) are being released. Together, these changes are reshaping the region's greenhouse gas emissions and further intensifying climate change.

This report spotlights fifteen of the highest-emitting #methane sources in the three U.S. oil and gas basins that export the most LNG to Europe:
the Permian, Appalachian, and Haynesville basins.
It also assesses, for the first time, what we know
— and don’t know
— about potentially responsible operators for these sites
and for other large methane plumes throughout those basin…

Catching cow burps in real time: Methane sensor matches industry monitor in early field test
Methane is a short-lived but powerful greenhouse gas; cutting methane emissions can slow near-term warming and improve air quality by reducing harmful ground-level ozone. As ruminants digest feed, they release methane—through burps. In fact, emissions from cattle are the largest source of human-caused methane emissions (roughly 25% of the total)—so reducing emissions from cattle is an important part of tackling climate change.

Scientists stunned as volcano cloud starts destroying methane
The Hunga Tonga eruption may have triggered a surprising chemical reaction that destroyed some of the methane released into the atmosphere. Scientists say the discovery could reshape estimates of methane pollution and inspire new methods for slowing near-term global warming.

EU proposes three-year delay to methane rule penalties
The European Commission has proposed delaying penalties for companies that fail to comply with the EU’s methane emissions rules, following pressure from major energy exporters and industry groups that warned the measures could disrupt supplies and raise costs.
