#ScribesAndMakers Oct 14: How do you feel when a show that is non-musical inserts an episode with a musical number?
To me, it often feels like they miscalculated the season length and had to do a filler episode. I know, how likely is that? Not really. The problem is, they're most often not good. So why else would you stick a poorly executed episode into a good series? Unless it…

Hey @… thanks for muetsch.io/speeding-up-my-mysq mysqlsh does seem super useful!
you have a very small typo in your restore code example:
```
mysqlsh -uwakapi_user -p --js -e "util.loadDump('/backup/wakapi.dump', {schema: 'wakapi', threads: 8, resetProgress: true, skipBinlog: true, deferTableIndexes: 'all'}"
```
it's missing its final closing brace:
```
deferTableIndexes: 'all'})"
```

For the record, given the present architectures, I do not expect the #aipocalpyse to be sinister, neither human or machine directed, although those will happen, already are, but no, the real catastrophes will come from a grossly stupid mistake that propagates instantly, a complete and tragic misalignment from the intention.
I am, of course, no expert on these matters 😅

I keep beating this drum, but...
It's.... Interesting that we're having an entire conversation about "AI alignment" when Sam Altman and Darius Amodei have flat out said that their goal is to make paperclips out of everything even if the human race goes extinct in the process.
Oh I'm sorry, dollars. They're making dollars, not paperclips. That changes everything, clearly.
...
What's more insidious is that even if you Luigi'd Altman and Amodei tomorrow, OpenAI and Anthropic would happily elect new leaders and continue with business as usual. There is no shortage of humans willing to step up and run the paperclip machines and who have the same misalignment issue (they're not actually a large percentage of humans, mind, but there are plenty of them). So the thing you have you defeat in order to stop the paperclipization is in fact a corporation (and the idea that wealth makes right behind it), not a human.
It's almost as if we're *already* locked in an existential battle with an inhuman entity whose effective goals are dangerously misaligned by nature... 🤔
...
I wonder if the same techniques used to defeat the entity already threatening us would work against the hypothetical threat it's waving around to distract us? Only one way to find out!

RE: mastodon.social/@MikeElgan/117
@… points out the key problems with many data centers in this "boom".
"Personally, I’m in favor of data centers. If companies want to raise billions of dollars, spend it on the costs of building and operating data centers, and then try to recoup those costs by monetizing AI, I’m all for it.
But that’s not what they’re proposing.
Their proposition is that they pay some of the costs and reap all of the profits, while the public pays some of the costs and reaps none of the profits."
