I'm just now realizing that I won't be able to go to the #Milwaukee Air and Water show, this year. 😞

Putting it on just two cars seems limiting. I could see a "big brother" argument, though.
"Funded by the Daniel Hoan Foundation, the “Route Reports” system will use high-definition dash cameras mounted to two Department of Public Works supervisor cars that are among the highest-mileage vehicles in the city fleet after police squads. That video feed is processed by an artificial intelligence program in real-time to detect and assess potholes."

Sorry, last one from Nextdoor!
Some guy complained about Milwaukee because it's been "run by Democrats for 60 years" and I agreed, and said it's time to return to having Socialist mayors!
(A few others also pointed out Milwaukee's Socialist history.)

Does anyone know who I could hire to move a prefab garden shed in the #Milwaukee area? It would be going from Mequon to Glendale.
The green markers represent all the potholes the city filled in after I reported them.
I've done a lot of improvements to Lisbon Avenue. I'm not sure if this section is set for replacement... if not, they'll continue to hear from me.
#mke #milwaukee
That's good to hear but I am not sure why that wasn't already the case.
"The Milwaukee Common Council approved legislation that modifies Milwaukee Police Department standard operating procedures governing officers' duty to intervene in and report unreasonable uses of force, including force used by federal agents."

Oh shit, best Nextdoor comment today:
"Stop electing Barret!"
Tom Barrett (two t's) hasn't been the Mayor of Milwaukee since December 2021.
It's hard to take people who complain about the city seriously when they don't even know who the mayor has been for the past 4 1/2 years.

I don't think that anybody actually likes WE Energies, and I'm hoping that this gets SE Wisconsin closer to where we need to be.

I read an article about a new proposed law for datacenters in #Milwaukee that said: "Proposals of 20,000 square feet or less would be permitted by right, meaning no legislative review would be required, if they use a closed-loop cooling system and comply with existing noise standards."
The Stratos data center in Utah is supposed to be over 40,000 acres. This would be 0.46 acres. Is the next step 86,956 smaller data centers?
Yesh! So, they move into the area, put the local pharmacies out of business, close their pharmacies, and then pay a ton of money to make sure that nobody can open a new pharmacy there. That doesn't sound great.
"Several Walgreens sites in Milwaukee — including closed stores — are under rental agreements that prohibit other pharmacies or certain other businesses from opening in those locations without the company’s permission."

I just used my free pass from @… for a ticket to see #Milwaukee #MilwaukeeFilm
That would be cool. It would make it easier to go from A to B.
"There isn’t any numeric goal in mind now, said Mike Amsden, a transportation planning manager for the city. But the city wants to keep connecting existing lanes “so that people do have continuous, cohesive, easily-understood network of protected bike lanes.”
He said the city is focused on protected bike lanes over regular bikes lanes because they are much safer for riders."

I'm a pedantic asshole so it's not "414 Day" it's "04-14 Day".
You can't just drop the leading zero!

Hopefully this is the last of the storms for a while. #Milwaukee
The Odd Rock Cafe (formerly “Cafe Voltaire”) in Milwaukee, where many bands played in the 1980s. Lots of memories from that place. It was eventually torn down. I use to live a few blocks away and later worked right down the street in Bay View.

Personally, I want to see a 100% free to use bus system and a guaranteed funding stream from the county to cover their expenses. I would be happy to just see them able to reliably maintain bus services, though.
“While the progress we’ve realized is encouraging, we still face a serious structural funding challenge next year, as MCTS is one of the only major transit systems in the country without a dedicated source of funding,”

I just realized that today is 4/14. #Milwaukee
Do you live in #Milwaukee? Do you like good #bike and #pedestrian infrastructure? You should give feedback.

The Downer is a great little theater and I love to see it.
"Milwaukee Film announced that it has received a $500,000 donation from the Richard and Ethel Herzfeld Foundation to support the $8 million Downer Theatre capital campaign. It’s the first major gift announced for the campaign."
#Milwaukee #MilwaukeeFilm #Downer
That's neat.
"An east side pedestrian plaza, converted from part of a Milwaukee street, is to get some big improvements.
Ivanhoe Plaza, located next to the Oriental Theatre building, will be redesigned to include a new performance stage and shade structure."
#Milwaukee #EastSide
That would be really neat.
"The Amtrak service would initially run two round trips daily, with additional stops in Pewaukee and Watertown – bringing passenger service to Wisconsin's second- and third-most populous counties. That could increase to four trips daily."

Another bank? There are a lot of them there already.
"The developer plans to demolish the existing buildings and build a three-story, 55,800-square-foot building with 5,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 16 market-rate apartments on the second and third floors.
A Bank of America branch would occupy a 3,500-square-foot first-floor retail space."

A good reason to get outdoors in the north shore.
"Since 2024, the Village of Brown Deer has hosted a game every May, hiding a medallion within the village's 4.5-square-mile limits and sending out clues every few days. In previous years, the hunt has drawn thousands of searchers in pursuit of the cash prize and complimentary meal, sponsored by Café Corazon, according to the village."

The beer garden is unfortunately not open yet at Estabrook park. #Milwaukee
It would be really cool to be able to take the train to see my brother and his family.
"Madison lost its passenger rail service in the 1970s. For decades, local officials have been lobbying to bring that service back to Wisconsin’s second-largest city."

It's already soooo much more than a year ago. 😫
"Residential rates will rise 14.75% by 2028. If approved, We Energies customers will have experienced six rate hikes since 2020.
The three-member state Public Service Commission sets utilities’ electric, natural gas and steam rates. It is expected to rule on the rate increases later this year."
#Milwaukee #WEEnergies
Hopefully the North Shore gets more of these developments. I walk past that building often and it looks good.
"The goal is to create more opportunities for families to live where they choose. The Hampton has already proven a highly sought-after housing option. Spoerl said the project quickly received more than 350 applications."

If anyone is looking for an IT #job in #Milwaukee, my employer is apparently looking for a HRIS Analyst (a person to "liaise with UW Shared Services to resolve issues, escalate tickets, and identify trends requiring action" and manage workday access).

That sucks. I really like that trail.
"The Ozaukee Interurban Trail partially collapsed just north of Highland Road, forcing runners and bikers to turn around Wednesday.
Mequon Mayor Andrew Nerbun says it is unclear how long the trail will be closed. The damage could worsen with more rain, and an outside contractor may be needed for repairs."
#Milwaukee #Mequon #Interurban #InterurbanTrail
Do it!
"Now, Milwaukee officials are considering a $3.2 million plan to upgrade bike lanes and make other safety improvements on the high-profile street.
The west side of Second Street, between downtown and West Maple Street, would get a two-way protected bike lane. That would replace the unprotected bike lanes now running on both sides."
