Just picked up an in-person ticket for #FediMTL #Montreal tech friends: see you there?

I couldn't go to #VCF #Montreal last weekend because I was away. Did any of you go? How was it? (Despite it being way down in St-Jean, not in Montreal…)
Haven't heard anything at all. Worth going if they do it again next year?

Looks like some people at HEC #Montreal have put together a dashboard with data (primarily demand/production) from our electricity utility, Hydro #Quebec.
Pretty interesting; especially given the excess demand this past week.

There’s not really any Chicago deep dish style pizza in #Montreal so we’ve got to make it ourselves.

Pre-sauce panned pizzas
Same, ready for the oven
Finished baking; undercarriage

I posted this yesterday, and it got a pretty good response, but I know many people (myself included) bankrupt their unread feeds after a busy weekend, so here it is again because I think it's fun—especially for the #Montreal crowd.

I'm not a huge fan or anything, but I do have some amount of regret for missing the NiN show here in #Montreal last week.
Alas, The Internet provides.

Here's hoping they lose as badly as the PQ the last two times, and that #Montreal actually manages to elect representation that doesn't get washed out by a gross majority, so the province doesn't have to posture hating Montreal so much.
Don't let la porte frappe you on the way out after gutting so many of the services we paid for.
Also FPtP is a bad voting system. I said it…

The number of default-named #Meshtastic nodes in #Montreal is surprisingly high.
Like lots of `Meshtastic 40af`/`40af` nodes.
Is it like this everywhere? Why don't people configure their nodes? Am I just failing to read the configured name properly? So many questions…
Edit: adding screen…

Screen shot showing default-named nodes. Hope it’s not exposing too much to show this, but they’re literally broadcasting this so I don’t feel too bad.

Okay, I think this thing is ready-enough to tell people about it.
I made a #BBS to watch aircraft near #YUL (#Montreal airport), through my home #ADSB

The yulbbs about screen. It reads:

YULBBS is powered by ADS-BBS
(a pun on the ADS-B system that provides data)

Both were created by Sean Coates: https://seancoates.com

ssh (or telnet): yulbbs.via.sc

It uses Swift, NIO, swift-nio-ssh, and dump1080 on the backend.
The antenna is near CYUL, in Dorval, Quebec, a borough of Montreal.
The whole thing runs on a Raspberry Pi 3 in my office networking closet.
Aircraft data comes from the air, not from the net. Be nice.

(Yes, I know that it's not a …
A screen shot of the “ANSI”/BBS style UI. The main “list” view of air traffic near YUL. It contains a list of featured aircraft, a chart of arrivals/departures, recent activity, and some stats.
The map view, which uses Unicode Braille characters. One plane is departing, another is arriving, and a third is not currently heuristically engaged with the airport but it’s nearby.
