For #MusicWomenWednesday this week, this great new EP by Canada project AEROPLANE JU. This is some strange, almost experimental lo-fi bedroom type stuff. There's guitars, shimmering, sparkling strangeness, and some odd, unique vocals- I just dig the hell out of it. Had to buy this one and her other new single - been playing both of them a lot.

#MusicWomenWednesday this week is Portland, Oregon's HERR GOD. They have a couple EPs, one even from May, before the two songs they put out in June here. Some of it's fairly sad.. kind of a bedroom lofi slowcore shoegaze kinda thing. Nice simple songs, catchy as hell. Like a sadder, slower That Dog. Love that tape hiss!

Re-doing a #MusicWomenWednesday from 2024, as the video I'd linked to disappeared and I had to grab a new one.
When I was a kid in the 90s, I had a Wax Trax video compilation on VHS that had this great cover of Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" done by Los Angeles' BRAINDEAD SOUND MACHINE. This was the first way I ever heard this song, and I'm crazy about th…

This week's #MusicWomenWednesday is another great, brief ripper of a tape from last month by hardcore punks CHARADE from Toronto. You can listen to this whole thing in 5 or 6 minutes, and it's fuckin awesome. Don't sleep on Total Supply Records from Detroit if you dig rough, raunchy punk and hardcore.

#MusicWomenWednesday this week is the new Ari Lennox record Vacancy. (There are VERY audibly explicit lyrics on this, albeit sung with Lennox' unreal voice.) Chill, catchy neo-soul that's jazzy in spots. It's not on Bandcamp, but you can listen here:

For this week's #MusicWomenWednesday, something fairly brutal and excellent- Glasgow's UNMAKING and their debut EP 'Absolute Immiseration'. This is like, blackened sludge -- some VERY intense shit. Heavy as hell. Vocalist Kay Logan's voice is roaring and screeching.. I keep coming back to this one.

I featured That Dog's 1997 masterpiece 'Retreat from the Sun' a year ago for #MusicWomenWednesday, but since I determined yesterday thanks to @…'s album of year posts that it's my favorite record of 1997, I'm re-upping it. I have it …

The cover of That Dog's 1997 album Retreat from the Sun. It has the band's logo in all lowercase at the top, and the album's name (also all lowercase) at the bottom. The middle is a closeup of Anna Waronker's eye and some of her hair over it. Her eyebrow. It's a damn cool and unforgettable album cover.
