Hinter Paywall. Braucht man aber auch nicht lesen. Wie schlimm die Ökobilanz von Sachen so ist, gibt es wie Sand am Meer in der Durchschnittspresse. Außer es geht um Verbrennerautos, die auch noch nach der Herstellung die Hölle auf Erden heraufbeschwören, oder Mobiltelefone.

A friend, PCUSA Minister, and ministry colleague lost most of her possessions 3 weeks ago in a fire at her senior development. Gerade in "Über Freiheit" von Timothy Snyder ein tolles neues Wort gelernt: Sadopopulismus.
(Aus dem gleichnamigen Abschnitt des Kapitels 'Mobilität') "Der Populismus offeriert eine gewisse Umverteilung, er bietet dem Volk etwas von Seiten des Staates; der Sadopopulismus bietet nur das Spektakel, dass andere noch mehr benachteiligt werden."
Es geht in dem Kapitel darum, wie durch Immobilisierung der Bevölkerung, also durch teuren und unzuverlässigen ÖP(N)V, marode Infrastruktur und den Zwang zum Individualverkehr, den sich viele nicht leisten können, Freiheit vernichtet oder zumindest stark (und immer stärker) eingeschränkt wird.

Perhaps I should also mention that there's two monitors, mirrored to show the same thing. One is at sitting height and one is attached the the wall at standing height.
Under the monitors, two keyboards, two mice (one set cordless, the other set fancy). The mice are upright mice for wrist safety.
The two laptops sit on the shelf at standing height next to the standing monitor.
One is plugged into the projector, it is the jellyfin server too.
One is the work laptop which has restricted access to the internet and upon which I installed the OS myself. Similar setup. No backups though, that laptop only has checkouts from work projects and installed tools.
It ain't mine, but I have root. But it has run mandated software from companies associated with intelligence services. My own hardware does not (deliberately) do that. It has tape over the camera when not in use. Generally turned off when not working.
The sitting keyboard is a Dygna and it is great, once you apply my special config files. The click, the lights, the separation and mobility of the hand position. The tilt. The pads. The configuration. Awesome. With the right config files. Yours for an investment of just two million.
The standing keyboard is a wireless MS split-keyboard. Separate number-pad. The only good thing MS ever made. When I heard they discontinued them I bought backups, there's two more in the cupboards.
The tower itself has a window case, led lights, led fans, and is in a cupboard in the corner which in turn has a window with led lit fans.
There's four VR masks here now the Frame has arrived and the Steam Machine for the bedroom might arrive next week.
Good job, the fridge palmtop powering the kitchen screen has been quarantined this week for swelling battery syndrome.

It only takes a very rudimentary understanding of economics to see that, in the long run, the market price of running "agentic AI" (or whatever the latest buzz becomes) and the salary of any kind of knowledge worker can only be separated by a gap that's dependent on *management's* ability to tell their output apart.
There is a cosmic-scale gap between the long-term value to a company in paying a salary to a human vs. getting an LLM to "do" the "same" work, but it's a gap that many people are investing heavily in hiding right now, and CEOs and managers become incredibly gullible when you promise them they won't have to deal with humans who might ask for raises, even though it should be obvious you plan to jack up prices once they're locked in. They also aren't well-known for a deep understanding of how their workers actually generate value, and tend to be easily distracted by shiny but shallow demos, which is exactly what LLMs can produce well.
Even in the most optimistic scenario I can imagine for these developments, the myth of upward mobility that's been a lynchpin for defusing class solidarity among wage laborers is going to take a significant beating. There's a completely obvious game plan underway to try to use fascism to shore up the power of the wealthy against any kind of mass movement, and to play the ancient divide-and-conquer game along race and gender lines just as usual, so the range of outcomes is huge, but every time you use an LLM you're pushing this closer to a sharper conflict.
