Telescopic view of a section of lush and dense mixed forest with trees in various stages of springing back to life: Some in full bloom, some with fresh bright green leaves, others still only bare with old dried leaves from last year glowing in the afternoon sun. A group of conifers in the middle. All in all, a cornucopia of colors and textures, almost an impressionistic, abstract image.

Closeup photo of a Large Marble butterfly, possibly Euchloe ausonides, perched on a flower having some lunch. The butterfly is mainly white, with an abstract pattern of green and black blotches on the underside of one wing, and black stippling on the topside of the other wing, giving it a “marbeled” appearance, and hence its name. A Dickcissel (who decided that was a good name for a bird?) and a Blue Grosbeak.

It breeds on the prairie grasslands of the Midwestern United States and winters in Central America, northern Colombia, and northern Venezuela. A mountain lake with deep green water in front of a steep talus slope and vertical rock face going up hundreds of meters directly behind. The lower parts near the lake are covered in dense bushes of dwarf mountain pines and some larches, all faintly reflected on the lake surface. The beautiful sunny day brings out the autumn colors with some of the larches in bright orange. Semi-overcast blue sky.
