One of the reasons I am cranky about LLMs is that they take some of the joy out of casual, flamboyant bullshitting-as-a-spectator-sport
For example, the telling of "tall tales", the game commercially known as "Balderdash" (in my extended family we played it as "Fictionary" and used the OED), "slideshow karaoke", bluffing at Scrabble, and this:

The main difference with the current situation is that the fictional US President Mark Hollenbach in Fletcher Knebel's curiously prophetic novel 'Night of Camp David' (1965) is a Democrat, not a Republican. Worth reading. Warning: “too plausible for comfort” (NYT).

In the NYT interview published yesterday, Trump openly admitted that his thirst for Greenland is not about military necessity, national security or business opportunities but simply his psychological need to own it.
I think that Trump is looking to secure his legacy as the (in his own mind at least) greatest president ever and adding Greenland would not only make America greater, literally, but also make it a bit bigger than Canada. In other words, a pure vanity project.
