I love that one of the accompanying images of the #OpenStreetMap blog post announcing the arrival of the official vector tiles on the OSM website is a map of #Manila’s old Spanish walled city of Intramuros.

With the #OpenStreetMap website’s new #VectorTiles, it’s nice to see that we can zoom in to level 23! Unfortunately, if the vector coordinates are not stored with OSM’s 7 decimal places for higher-zoom tiles, then what’s the point of all that zoom? 👀

I'm convinced that this is one of the big reasons why we need some form of @… sooner rather than later, to ensure our commons can be saved from corp capture.

Wat een beetje teleurstellend is in #Ierland dat er bijna geen wandelroutes en fietsroutes zijn opgenomen in #OpenStreetMap. In Frankrijk bijvoorbeeld zijn soms zelf onzichtbare paadjes nog te vinden op de kaart

I'm planning to run my own #dawarich server to keep track of my location history for quite a while already.
In the meantime, I just look at my #Openstreetmap edit history to see where I've been and when, and it works surprisingly well!

That @… now links out to the #panoramax images if they are annotated on objects (using the `panoramax=` tag), it's a good reason to go through existing sequences and link images to things!

Ich bzw. die Map-Anwendungen (OpenStreetMap und auch die kommerziellen Pendants) bräuchten sowas wie OPML für RSS, um Kartenfavoriten, Track etc. bequem überall nutzen zu können. Am besten gleich an einer (selbsthostbaren) Stelle zu pflegen.

There’s a new #OpenStreetMap website feature related to #Wikidata!
When viewing objects in OSM that have a Wikidata tag, you can now click the Wikidata icon to turn the opaque QID values into human-readable info (plus a link to Wikipedia if any).

Super interesting read about the dynamics in OSM: «[if this trend continues] de facto power within the #OpenStreetMap Foundation will increasingly shift towards individuals or informal interest groups within the sketched de facto membership. Ultimately, it is likely that the board itself in a way becomes an outsider within the organization – being formally in control […], but de facto being dependent on the true insiders of the organization in everything they do.»

When you visit a place where you haven't been before, install the #StreetComplete app and do some of the tasks..
It's like geo caching and helps to improve #openstreetmap - but beware, it can be addictive.- but also quite some fun

Already worked on a small improvement to @… – to provide some more context in the alt-text of the images.
The best idea I've come up for now: Get the features that close to the location of the image from #openstreetmap to get an idea what's "on the map" there.

I got a commission to render a map of the municipality of Macabebe (and Masantol) in the province of Pampanga, #Philippines 🇵🇭. So here’s a preview of the said map.
Almost all of the data is from #OpenStreetMap.

Had a blast at our little #OpenStreetMap birthday celebration. 🍰 🧉
It ended up being too windy to fly drones for long. Instead we recorded street-level images for #panoramax and GPS tracks, in addition to doing a lot of live surveying – using a huge range of tools that allow contributing to OSM!
In no particular order we at least used: @…, @…, @…, @…, HOTOSM's ChatMap, iD and JOSM.
Having so many different ways of making contributions is a real feature.

The final @… logo voting is still happening on @… for another day (and a bit)!

If anyone else who's in the #OpenStreetMap/#opensource cosmos needs a reason to stop using Organic Maps and switch to some free/open alternatives:
In addition to them rolling their own 'data license', it seems like their recent license modifications for code could also be viewed as violating the Apache license/the creation of a non-FOSS license too.
That the devs are unwilling to give a clear answer to those questions speaks volumes imho…

Today @… and I did our first hike close to our new home, up Cerro Ascochinga, doing some #OpenStreetMap surveying on the side. 🗺️

Not to pat myself on the back, but I'm really happy with how the alt texts of the @… bot that are generated from #openstreetmap tags through an Overpass query.
It makes the alt text show where the image was taken, what's potentially in the frame but also context around it. I enjoy reading them every day!

I feel a while ago I saw website here where you could enter an #openstreetmap building ID and it would make a 3D render based on the 3D annotation. For the life of me I can't find the URL, does anyone have an idea?
