Looking up at signs on a traffic sign pole. On the back of the pole, facing away from the camera, are two signs in shapes familiar with USA motorists: a letter X indicating a railroad crossing, and a triangle indicating a yield. On the front is a rectangular sign that features the no symbol over a walking person and an all-terrain vehicle. The words read: "Trespassing is dangerous and illegal. Stay off railroad tracks. Ohio Revised Code 4519.40. No trespassing on tracks or right of way". The s…

Oh, the sad irony! Mile for mile, the Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is likely to be more expensive than HS2. The latest LTC current cost estimate is at least £11 billion for 14.3 miles of ‘smart’ motorway and tunnel. #rail #roads

It's important to lower the lid before flushing the toilet.
It's also important to wait till the lid actually falls down.
Alternatively, it's important to have spare trousers on you.
Don't ask.

If the world wasn't so full of greedy, idiotic, assholes we could have ultra high speed zero-emission electric trains connecting North America and Asia and we wouldn't need to pollute the skies or the seas.
🤝
We probably burn more fuel in a day with all the air traffic in the world than it would take to build the entire railway from Prince George or Edmonton through Fairbanks, across the Bering Sea/Land Bridge and on to Yakutsk, Moscow, and Beijing.
It's such a shame, you know?

There are people criticizing the plans to bring passenger trains to #Poznań's cargo bypass line.
Well, I for one definitely want to ride a train through this bridge. According to the internets: 2 km long, 10–15 metres above the ground.
Also, I definitely don't want to walk the walkway there. Never.

I have another fun project idea that I'm not going to realize.
What I'd love to have is a heat map of "how soon can I get there". One where I select my train station, and get a map of all train stations I can reach within N hours, each marked with the earliest arrival time and colored by how late I'll get there. Including all the reasonable transfers.
Say, the first train from here goes to Konin, so I get its arrival times marked on all stations towards Konin. Then, I can transfer to a few trains in Poznań, so I get their arrival times on their respective stations. And then all the transfers there, and so on.
So what I'd get is a pretty colorful map, with arrival time getting later with distance, except for major stations where IC trains get earlier than suburban trains, and then backwards from major stations where I can get via IC and then change into suburban going back. It would be such a cool experiment!
And honestly, I could start playing with it even with a partially automated tool: one that lets me select a given train and updated the map if it arrived somewhere earlier than I had before.

Hmm, I wonder how you're supposed to keep that distance when the roofing columns are less than 3 metres apart.
It's on the railway station in #Leszno.

I realize local road travel, especially taxi, is always more expensive (time and money) than long distance rail travel, but this #atrocity in and around #Bengaluru #India: 😒
Train, long distance: 386kms, 4.5 hrs, ₹1980 for two.
Taxi, home to station: 30kms, 1.5 hrs, ₹1100 for two.
