You're walking down a dirt road, and it suddenly crosses what looks like an overgrown line of greenery between the fields. You check the map. Indeed, a railway line used to cross here.

Time to continue my #rail travel stories. It's a few years since I was at the seaside last, since the travel's too long for me now. Before, I used to visit Świnoujście and Kołobrzeg a few times. The route to Kołobrzeg is quite straight, whereas Świnoujście gets interesting because of Szczecin on the way there.
So over all these years, using regional Poznań – Świnoujście trains, I've made all these variations:
• a direct train that reversed on Szczecin Główny station (i.e. the main station in Szczecin)
• a direct train, except that I got off at Szczecin Dąbie to stretch my legs, and then entered the same train 40 minutes later as it stopped at the same station again
• a direct train that passed through Główny and used a roundabout track to reverse
• a direct train, except that I got off at the first stop at Szczecin Dąbie, and changed trains to "Błękitny" that went faster from Szczecin to Świnoujście
• the "Orkan" train that used the rail bypass to go straight from Szczecin Zdunowo to Szczecin Załom, and skip all the other Szczecins (except I only went as far as Goleniów back then)
Perhaps we should have more than one relatively fast trans-Canada option for travel!?

I was in Chojnice, I was in Chojna, I'm just missing Chojnów for the full #rail set.
I was supposed to go home via Wrocław.
But then, I thought: perhaps I could change trains in Legnica, Głogów and Leszno? Turns out, I can do that.
And then, I thought: I've got a long ait in Głogów, perhaps I should add a change in Rudna? Well, I can do that as well.
Of course, there's an increased risk that I'll end up being stuck somewhere along the way.

Egypt is building three lines of high speed railways over 2000km. Meanwhile, in Canada, we are still ‘thinking' about building our first 1000km line. Maybe. If we talk nice to the rail tycoons.

Did I spend 90 minutes today adding random trips to my @… account? Perhaps.
Will I get a cool #rail coverage map tomorrow? I surely hope so!
But this one is cool too.
200 years of the railway.
Rather shockingly I've lived through more than a third of that!
Breeching, demise of steam, reduction of night trains, HSR, privatisation, and no more British Rail yellow fruit cake.

I felt out of place in a #PKP #InterCity train at first, but then I went to the toilet and it was like regional trains in the old days: the first one was out of service, in the second one the door lock was broken, and the third one featured stench and lack of toilet paper. Also, no paper towels and the dryer was broken.

Some moron just rode an #ElectricScooter through a #rail crossing, 20 meters ahead of a running train. The engineer pulled the emergency brake and stopped 50 meters past the crossing. Fortunately, the moron managed to drive through in time.
And I thought that KW, the Greater Poland's regional train operator, already got used to #rail passes I'm using for a few years now. However, all the evidence suggests that they were mostly scanning the barcode without looking at the ticket. Now that I bought it at a different ticket office with an incompatible QR code, they've started being surprised that they honor these.

Theory of going to Gryfice: 4 h 36 min. by train (including two communicated transfers, 11 min., each), 2 h on the spot, 5 h 17 min. return journey by train (including two transfers, 20 min. each).
Reality of going to Gryfice: 7 minut by trains, "accident involving a human", 1.5 h return journey on foot.

What's the point of installing an electronic timetable on a small train stop? Next to the paper one, of course. The kind that only displays the planned timetable, not the current departures. And of course the arrival platform is announced via loudspeakers after the barriers are closed.

Here's the new version of "passenger's portal", the timetable app of Polish railways, with even more battery friendly dark mode.

Variant 1:
Polish people: going crazy about tickets for 1 PLN.
Me, raised in thriftiness characteristic of Poznań area: "I don't know, 1 PLN is still some money."
Variant 2:
Carbrains: "trains are expensive!"
Me: "are they now? This sounds like a pretty good deal to me."

#DearFedi, does anyone happen to know a website or an app that I could use to easily highlight (as in using color) selected parts of the #railway network (ideally by choosing two stations to get everything in between highlighted), so I could mark which parts of the network I've already traversed, and then share it with you? (needs to include Polish railways)

Here's something new. Our train is delayed because the #PKP #InterCity train going in front of us is delayed. And apparently that train is delayed because the conductor decided to remove a passenger over him keeping his shoes against the seat opposite him.
And the real absurd part is that apparently said passenger removed the shoes upon being called on it. Yet the conductor decided to call the police to forcibly remove him anyway. On a single track line known to be filled with trains to the capacity. Causing series of delays for hours to come. With a bunch of connections on all major nodes that will cause further delays.
