remembering that time I was at a trade-conference and I walked by a CP Rail booth, looked at a couple of their brochures and then turned to a lady behind the table and said.
"my preference would be that the government run the railways”
and then walked away.

So I'm reading the changelog for the Polish railways' Passenger's Portal app (i.e. checking what they broke), and it turns out that the developers discovered compression.
I mean, the app's been updating "dictionaries" practically every single day for years (surely available stations change frequently), and they weren't even compressed! What's next? Discovering Last-Modified and refetching only if something actually changes?!

Question: Given the trade war, and other pressures from our "North American” partner... is it time to re-nationalize CN Rail (and potentially CPKC?) so that we can be sure that these critical Canadian transportation and economic assets are fully in Canadian control and serve Canadians first?
(It was the 30 year anniversary of the privatization of CNRail back in November 2025)

I wonder how many teenage lives could be saved (along with hundreds if not thousands of dollars in travel costs) if Alberta and Canada had a functioning bus/rail intercity public transport system.
But let's not do that... it might upset some car company lobbyist. Best to put 17 year-olds on icy Alberta highways at night after hockey practice.
