NS International Railways tries to make international rail travel even harder. Screenshot by my daughter, travelling from Barcelona to Rotterdam today. The app is informing her that the train from Paris to Rotterdam leaves on the same platform at Gare du Lyon where the train from Barcelona arrives. Not really. It leaves from a different station (Gare du Nord), about half an hour away by RER city train. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦

While we are distracted by other things, Putin is escalating the war in Ukraine, Poland increases it's readiness after sabotage/attacks on railways....We need more quick and firm action with regard to supporting Ukraine.

Russia struck an apartment building in Ternopil with an X-101 missile, killing 16 people, including a child. More than 60 people were injured, among them 14 children. Rescuers are still searching through the debris.

Today is the anniversary of America's time zones. Before the railways forced standardization, every town had local time, more or less based on solar time. That was chaos.
England actually had railway time decades earlier.

Well this is a fun loft find; The logo on the lid seems to be an exact match to Iraqi Republic Railways; the body seems to match a William Adams sugar pot from sometime 1950s onwards. It's not entirely crazy,p the Brits built some infrastructure in Iraq in the 50s.

Yesterday, there were fewer trains in the Netherlands due to snow in the track switches. For today, NS Dutch Railways announced a reduced schedule.
Now, no trains are running at all, due to an IT failure in planning the reduced schedule...

Egypt is building three lines of high speed railways over 2000km. Meanwhile, in Canada, we are still ‘thinking' about building our first 1000km line. Maybe. If we talk nice to the rail tycoons.
