I don't know if a JPEG would look better than the HEIF my iPhone generated but this two pictures really show how bad the situation currently is with the phone camera.
Both were shot on an iPhone 15 Pro Max with the 5x lense.
The one with the bright spot on the left is from the iPhone camera app and the one with the spot on the right is from another app which lets you shoot in plain #Raw
