With less than two months until the launch of NASA’s Nancy Grace #Roman Space Telescope, engineers at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida are preparing the observatory for its trip to space: https://science.nasa.gov/blogs/roman/2026/07/09/nasas-roman-launch-preparations-proceed/ - inside the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility, technicians used large cranes to carefully lift Roman and place it onto a specialized work platform, known as the Pantheon.

At 16:02 UTC Monday #Roman began an approximately 3-minute mid-course correction burn to adjust its trajectory toward its final orbit: https://science.nasa.gov/blogs/roman/2026/08/31/nasas-roman-completes-first-mid-course-correction-burn/ - it’s the first of two planned orbit adjustments to keep Roman on course for the second Lagrange point, L2 (the other, if needed, is planned for later this week, and Roman’s orbital insertion will take place approximately 100 days post-launch); once in orbit around L2, Roman will only require periodic station-keeping burns roughly every 28 days.

There goes the Nancy Grace #Roman Space Telescope! Deployment as seen from the Falcon Heavy's upper stage; minutes later the spacecraft - now on its way to the L2 - was power-positive. Cool pictures of the launch against the rising Sun: https://x.com/asherbphotos/status/2094026337988338082 and https://science.nasa.gov/blogs/roman/2026/08/30/nasas-roman-space-telescope-launches/ and https://x.com/_MaxQ_/status/2094026950691979414

Several future #Zooniverse projects are already being developed to help researchers explore the enormous datasets #Roman will produce: #GalaxyZoo is developing projects focused on galaxy shapes and spectra, while Planet Hunters is exploring how Roman data could contribute to future searches for exoplanets.

NASA has now confirmed all ground stations supporting the agency’s Nancy Grace #Roman Space Telescope are ready to receive the mission’s high volume of data once science operations begin by early 2027: https://science.nasa.gov/blogs/roman/2026/09/25/nasas-roman-team-confirms-ground-stations-receiving-data - recent testing ensured that these stations will be able to receive approximately 1.4 terabytes of data that Roman will downlink each day, the highest rate of any NASA astrophysics mission so far.

The chance of weather prohibiting the #Roman launch is 50% Sunday and 30% on Monday, it was just reported at the second presser. Meanwhile here's a little video about the mission ... from 10 years ago when the satellite hadn't been named for N. G. Roman yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbJpVHMV1m4

RE: #Roman have improved to 70%!

As a result of exquisite planning by our orbital dynamics team, brilliant execution by the operations team, and a precise launch from SpaceX, the #Roman space telescope has fuel for at least 22 years of potential science operations: https://science.nasa.gov/blogs/roman/2026/09/14/fuel-savings-double-potential-lifetime-for-nasas-roman-mission/ - the added life (10 years were required) comes from the first mid-course correction’s accuracy, extra fuel added prior to launch, and anticipated results from Roman’s upcoming second mid-course correction and orbital insertion.

Now beginning on #Roman Space Telescope Science Overview News Conference.

Apparently the chaos and devastation caused at NASA by the science-hating U.S. government had severely threatened the success of the #Roman mission: https://www.npr.org/2026/09/15/nx-s1-5964919/nasa-employee-relocations-equipment-impacts-missions - and other missions are affected, too.
