Amateur diplomat time: I think what Australia is trying to do Schrödinger's support for Trump's (Netanyahu's) war on Iran.
We've almost always gone to war if USA asks. But Trump's *hated* here, so we're helping UAE instead. We've said no boots on the ground, so we're helping with planes/surveillance equipment.
Makes sense, we've recently signed an FTA & Emirates is a key transport link from here to Europe. Trump can't call Albo a 'loser' like Spain & the Australian media can't roast him for 'not doing anything'.
