Ahhhw today three years ago in #scotland : a view over #LochLomond
I even blogged about it back then:

This image captures a breathtaking and expansive landscape, showcasing the serene beauty of a vast, open vista. The foreground features a rugged, grassy hillside with patches of exposed rock, adding texture and a sense of wildness to the scene. A faint path can be seen winding its way through the grass, inviting exploration.

Beyond the hillside, the landscape opens up to reveal a stunning view of a large lake or body of water. The lake is dotted with several small islands, their green surfaces…

Schlösser und Burgen' #FotoVorschlag "Castles and Fortresses"
We visited #Scotland twice and both times were excellent visits! All kinds of weather but mostly really good. I loved the people and the landscape - well and also the castles.

A dramatic and atmospheric landscape unfolds in this image, capturing the rugged beauty of a historic castle ruin set against a sweeping natural backdrop. The castle, constructed from dark stone, stands in partial ruin, its weathered walls and towers evoking a sense of history and timelessness. The structure is nestled amidst lush greenery, with trees and shrubs adding a touch of life to the otherwise austere stone.

In the foreground, a calm body of water stretches out, reflecting the castle a…

Question specifically for people in #Scotland who have bought a property there: is it normal not to be allowed further visits of the property, once your offer has been accepted, and until missives are concluded? Can you push back against that?

If I could change one thing about #Scotland it wouldn't be the weather (what would this place be like if it were warm?!) or independence (we'll get there, I'm sure). It's the religion. From the very first weeks I was here, I, and later my children and students, have confronted horrible prejudice at every turn. Colleagues have threatened to resign rather than "working with a Buddhi…

Content warning: Scottish politics

'Did Not Vote' carries the day in #Scotland with 46% of registered voters, or a gain of 10% over 2021.
As others have said repeatedly, the big political divide is between those who vote and those who don't.

"Rest and be thankful" spot in #Scotland,
Before and after the snow (2 days ago vs today)

Photo of a hilly landscape with a road curving downwards surrounded by mossy and rocky green- yellow land, green coniferous trees on the right and several mountains on each side, also green - brown but with snowy tops. This is all below a bright blue sky with only one small cloud on the right.
Photo of the same landscape from almost the same point of view, but it looks like it's in black and white because it is entirely covered in snow, only the trees that were on the right remain dark, the sky is now fully cloudy, hiding most of the snowy peaks in the distance

A picturesque rural scene unfolds in this image, capturing the charm of the countryside. In the foreground, a shaggy-haired animal with long horns stands prominently in a lush, green meadow. Its presence adds a sense of tranquility and natural beauty to the scene.

The meadow is vibrant and well-maintained, with patches of grass and wildflowers creating a rich tapestry of green hues. The animal appears calm and content, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere.

Photo of a Highland cow in a muddy pen, she is quite short but bulky, looking at me through her long hair, with round ears and pointy horns.
On the right side, a few more cows are eating in their feeder. A hilly landscape is in the background with bushes and pine trees.

Lost a bit in the hubbub about Labour losing massively to the Reform UK is this little tidbit:
Wales is using a new proportional representation model!
There are 96 seats in the devolved parliament (Senedd).
There are 16 new constituencies created with six members each.
The 96 seats are allocated by share of the votes for a party, or by votes for an independent candidate.
Scotland already uses a mixed Constituency and Regional member system to get proportional representation in their parliament.
In England these votes are purely municipal/council/mayoral races. I'm not sure if they're proportional, ranked FPTP, or what.
And yet here we are in Canada, too afraid to change to a more democratic system.
