- Snikket is intended to run alone on a cheap VPS.
- Chatmail with reachable SMTP/SUBMISSIONS/IMAPS/HTTPS ports.
It seems like it’s difficult to find a chat server to #selfhost when you’re running a other https services on the same machine

Updates to #mastodon complete on my #selfhost.
I think the biggest load on my #footiMac is nginx and my streaming demands. I need to offload that stuff somewhere else.

All webcam streams have been redirected from a single nginx process on #footiMac (which is also, of course, running this very mastodon #selfhost!) to their own docker containers on another iMac using Docker CLI/Colima.
I can already 'feel' the difference in response time for footiMac and posting/updating on mastodon! Yay!

Hey #selfhost #mastodon folks! How do I update node.js in the live directory on Debian?
I thought I had written it down somewhere and now can't find it. The install docs at joinmastodon don't help as they're now using apt to install nodejs which is different, i think from when I installed my system.

So I was at node 22.9.0 and mastodon's compiler was complaining that I needed to be at least 22.14 or something… I've used the command at root:
n latest
and
n stable
The first installed v25.2.1
The second installed v24.11.1
now when I do node --version it reports:
v24.11.1
So hopefully the next time I need to do a mastodon upgrade it won’t complain anymore? 🤷‍♂️

I think #footiMac is nearing its limit for what I'm asking of it. Between Mastodon and being a nginx relay for three Youtube streams... it's disk access is running at 70-80% constantly.
I'm not sure that I can upgrade it internally in any way that would make a big difference.
Might be time to find a new hand-me-down computer to press into service!
