Virgin Media O2 launches interactive pilot to encourage tech reuse
Virgin Media O2 is piloting the ‘O2 Tech Refab Lab’ at its flagship Westfield Stratford City store, featuring discovery zones where customers can learn how devices can receive a second life.

I know it has its flaws but it's interesting that this idea was never properly explored beyond really bad projected keyboards.

So I just switched ISPs and went from a provider router to my own router.
Odd things on the network. My router could see devices and servers but I couldn't access them from my computer.
Said devices and servers had static IPs.
I entirely missed the default IPs going from 192.168.0.xxx to 192.168.1.xxx with the router switch.

well that and rebooting the router 3 times but youtube kept playing??? cache is fun haha

At 27 pages into Gil Duršn’s new book “The Nerd Reich” I came full stop at this sentence:
“As many political schools of thought do, these technolibertarians make a philosophy out of a personality defect.”
Simply and elegantly stated. The various techno-optimistic philosophies running around Silicon Valley and the venture capital community are toxic and inhumane. We are desperately in need of a new tech manifesto that puts human wellbeing, acceptance, compassion and love as first principals. Why do we write code if not for this? The current direction of technology leadership has taken a wrong turn onto a dark and destructive path. This needs to change.
This is a great book so far. Highly recommend it.

A generation of PMs made a career out of copying ideas from other apps they've seen into their own app. Today, AI (which has seen every app) can do this 100x faster than any of them.
The only problem is that doing this was always pointless

I installed a windows Task Mgr replacement a few weeks ago and it just now pops up this fun dialog of an unsigned setup.exe running. Immediately after that it reports that the GoogleChromeElevationService was installed (and notably signed by Google).

The crisis of software development comes from two contradictory rules:
- Up-front thinking is Waterfall; we must only learn by shipping
- There's no time for rework, so everything needs to be done right the first time
Bosses thought #AI could break this contradiction. But synthetic insights and vibe code don't actually enable faster discovery & delivery. They are a (poor) alternative to doing these things AT ALL.
