Did a video shoot for the Balsäk Band yesterday! It's amazing how easy it can be when you have a great subject. These guys are an absolute rolling ball of chaos, but then when it's time to turn it on they know exactly what to do — and it was magic.

Song Exploder
In the fall of 2001, Phil Elverum released the album The Glow Pt 2 on K Records. Pitchfork named it the best album of the year. In this episode, Phil recounts how he created the first song on the record at Dub Narcotic Studio. He spoke with me from his home in Anacortes, Washington, about his love of being alone in the studio, evoking nature through music, and where the name The Microphones came from. Plus a few words from Calvin Johnson, the founder of K Records. This episode is prese…

Even the management acknowledges his important work in The Mansion. And soon, you'll be able to follow the chubby little rodent on new adventures and mishaps! #thementalmansion

Just came across this in #TheEconomist. I knew that the #Japanese #birth rate was low, but this shows it's going to get worse because the size of the childbearing cohort is about to start shrinking…

Chart of population versus age for Japan. The chart shows a big bulge in their 50s, then a sharp decline to the 20s and 30s, then another ongoing decline through 0-20. The proportion aged under 10 is about half that of those in their 50s.

I saw #TheOdyssey so you don’t have to. The story itself is a given, so what’s actually interesting is how it visually sets up the more mythical elements. That’s solid and at times extremely creepy! Well done!
The non-linear narrative arc is kinda a mixed bag though?! It goes for an anti-war message at the end, but that doesn’t track with what actually happens chronologically. Th…

Very tired now.

Welcome to #TheMentalMansion

They lift a dream that glows colder than the others. The moment it rises from the chest, the air around you cools, and the shadows shimmer as though dusted with frost.
The cloud unfurls, slow and reverent.

Yes, I'm late in the year for it, and it has set seed; but I also got most of the ragwort, which hadn't, so it was worth doing.
