I don't think #TheManTrap is often regarded as an iconic or favourite episode, and sometimes it's been dismissed (even in early reviews) as a simple 'monster' story and thus as sort of 'low-brow' sci-fi. But I think it stands up as an introduction to #StarTrek's premise, characters, and setting.
For a first installment of an episodic show which had to establish itself as a new kind of TV, it does a pretty good job. New adventures would add more detail over the next... 60 years, it turns out
