Three bull elk are testing each other’s strength and durability during the height of the annual elk rut (mating) season. These three bachelors are 4 to 5 years old, and therefore middle-aged for bulls, based on the number of points on their antlers. So they are mature, but apparently not big enough, or strong enough, or just assertive enough to command a harem of cows of their own. For #ThrowbackThursday - a set of scanned photo prints from my 1997 visit at the Oberwolfach institute followed by some tourist time in Frankfurt. Apparently at the time I was more interested in photos of landscapes than of the other famous visitors at the workshop on Schubert varieties.

#throwback Aug. 25, 2024: Beautiful teak entry door at Swarnawalli Matha, Sonda #India. Very heavy; at least 8ft tall.
BTW very serene both inside and outside the temple. 🛕
Also, very generous people. I remember they gave us nice tea and evening snacks. ☺️

About four decades ago, a coworker of my mom visited Australia and brought back gifts for people she cared about. Her gift to my mom is still in use. It still looks and works quite well, as I found out myself a few days ago. ☺️
