Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers; a peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked. If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

This week’s #ThursdayFiveList—courtesy of @…—is #ForeignAffairs: songs in a tongue that isn’t my own.
1. Adriano Celentano, “Prisencolinensinainciusol”—

“The Great Tower of Babel,” painted by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1563. In the picture’s bottom left corner, courtiers fawn upon King Nimrod of Shinar, and across the painting’s base, stonemasons lay down tools to grovel before him. Most of the picture is taken up by an enormous, many-tiered tower, still under construction as it reaches towards Heaven.

Courtesy of @…, this week’s #ThursdayFiveList theme is #LetTheRiversFlow: songs about rivers.
1. Puscifer, “The Humbling River”—

“Phlegyas, a Ferryman on the River Styx,” Gustave Doré, 1903.

A black and white woodcut showing Phlegyas, a heavily muscled and very nearly naked man of classical physique standing in a boat on the river Styx, straining against the oar. His two passengers look concerned as hordes of lost souls attempt to slide from the waters onto their vessel.

#ThursdayFiveList! #SmellsLikeTeenSpirit! Songs teen Dave loved (and still does)! Too many characters!
1. Skatenigs, “Chemical Imbalance”—

A goat slides down a short, plastic children’s slide, jumps off at the bottom, and affectionately headbutts another goat.

Caption: “I don’t wanna adult! I just wanna play, eat whatever, and head-butt people who judge me!”
