It's been a while since that and I guess the website is now usable in terms of performance, but I still feel that the new version feels... eye candy?
Two things that I feel:
- I don't think we need too much eye candy for this kind of service.
- The eye candy design makes me feel that it will be sluggish (it isn't on my laptop, but I haven't tested on other devices).

I heard that someone said that it made with phones as a primary focus, but I think it's just generally oriented towards how streaming services are now made.
The redesign really changed the flow of the website. I don't really use those advanced stuff, but the holding down action is something that I often use, which is now removed. I guess this is made to be simpler and intuitive for new users, but damned if I deny that I miss the shortcuts.

Hello from August. Let's get going: passwords.
I'm not sure why they have to remove passwords, or maybe that's just me hating magic links.
There's the weird change when someday... passwords are not a thing in Trakt. I don't know why or what they are thinking, but it's just gone, replaced with a "check your e-mail for the OTP" prompt.

What else? With that, I think this is a letdown, a "one step forward, two steps back" kind of letdown, unless some industry experts (or just knowledgeable people) can fill me in on this.

It's to the point that I'd rather have 2FA with my phone app just to avoid it, which I did when osu! introduced 2FA. I mean, shit, man. If there is a passkey option, I would do it, even if I can't do it on my phone since it is kind of old.

Is this app that deep that there are regulations that you don't want to bother with?
I mean, you already have credit cards to take care of, but I guess you'd rather just offload it to some payment processor or something, just like you offload authentication to Google and Apple?

If you are a paid user, sure, but at that point you would have a secure password because you don't want your credit card to be used. For free users? It's just a tracking app, not really deep IMO.

The thing is that I kind of hate checking my e-mail to log in. It took quite some time to load on my browser, and I don't really like auto-sync on my phone to save battery (maybe people take this for granted...). E-mails are supposed to be an emergency option (e.g., resetting passwords, recovering accounts), but I guess this is the new normal?

Is this app that deep so that you have to streamline the app to keep the churn low?
I mean, I guess I can see that, especially when you are starting to squeeze more from the VIP users to the point that they may get annoyed. But then, you already have OAuth via Google and Apple, so the bar is pretty low, and keeping a password field shouldn't affect much, unless research said otherwise.
