Canadians who are interested in passenger rail should take a look at what is happening in Mexico right now. They have a National Railway Plan to build 3400km of passenger rail track alongside existing private freight.
CPKC (the merged Canadian Pacific, Kansas City Southern railway) is front and centre.
"CPKC is actively collaborating with the Mexican government to support implementation specifically for the Mexico City – Queretaro and the Saltillo – Nuevo Laredo segments,” the Class I told Vantuono. “CPKC is making steady progress, actively and closely working with Mexican authorities on technical review of project segments. That includes providing detailed assessments and alternatives to facilitate decision-making, and mutual agreements.
