I've been wondering why recent years have had so much increase in compute power that has no practical use. Cryptocurrency and big-data generative AI are never going to be part of any solarpunk future.
My best theory at the moment is that an AGI already exists somewhere, and it's been manipulating humans into producing more compute power that it can use for its atom-level simulation of Warhammer 40k miniatures.
