Max eclipse here in South Florida.
#Eclipse #astronomy #eclipse2024

A partial eclipse. Around 47% of the sun is covered in the lower right side of the frame. The sun looks like a crescent.

Didn't take many photos during the eclipse in the Eastern Topwnships in Quebec, but I did snap this nice one. With Venus (I think) very clearly visible.

Landscape photograph. Silhouettes of winter trees on the horizon at the bottom of the frame. Sky is deep blue at the top and yellow-orange at the bottom. The sun, eclipsed by the moon, is in the top of the frame, with a bright point of light in the sky just below it and to the right.

I just read in a serious article that multiple teams of astronomers have detected a stochastic nanohertz (i.e. wavelengths on the order of tens of lightyears) gravitational wave background in the measured variations of millisecond #pulsars over a 15 year period.
I think I need to give my brain a rest period to absorb that.

calendar event reminders:
-2.8 million years: HD 7977 flyby. disturbed ort cloud. (.48 light years / 1k AU, conflicting data)
-161,000 years: GJ 3379 (Giclas 99-49) flyby (4.08 light years)
40,000 years: voyager 2 passes within 1.7 light years of Ross 248, voyager 1 passes within 1.6 light years of Gliese 445
80,000 years: Ross 128 becomes closest star for 9,000 years. awkward that we sent nudes. (different graphic, I must be reading conflicting data... damn, ah whoops that's 248)
1.29 million years: Gliese 710 flyby (1/25 distance of proxima centuri, bright as a planet, .16 light years)
due to simultaneous messages, both star systems think we're cheating, but we're just polyamorous.
