David Brown leaving #AWS after 19 years. I worked with him as a customer in the Netflix days and while I was also a VP at AWS and he was the best manager they ever had. Many of the broken teams/services at AWS in the early days were fixed by him. Super nice guy in person as well. Hasn’t said where he’s going next…

I joined #AWS ten years ago and recruited the team that figured out how to teach AWS how to run and support open source projects and foundations. We moved the reputation of AWS in the open source community from very negative to reasonably positive over a few years, and helped internal teams learn how to launch, manage and contribute to open source projects.

I was hired as a VP in #AWS Marketing and built a developer evangelism team by hiring people that the open source communities already knew and trusted. Zaheda Bhorat and Arun Gupta (who now runs Open Source at NVIDIA) were my first hires. Shirley Bailes used to run OSCON for OReilly, she got the budget to sponsor and operate all the Open Source conferences for AWS (FOSDEM, All things Open, Kubecon etc). Deirdre Straughn created and operated the social media and blogging channels.
