I voted for what you might call the "anti-establishment" voice for president. He wore a kaffiyeh and talked of environment and how the BCNDP could meet this incredibly challenging moment.
Glad I was able to support him. he came second by a large margin but I am grateful that support is there.

one of the coolest things about the #bcndp convention has been the use if this little ballot book for voting for elected positions within the party.
They announce the number and colour of the page, you rip out the paper and use it to make your selection.
Then the committee folks go around with ballot boxes like offerings at church 😆
Democracy is cool wherever it happens and in all its iterations.

Solidarity to union members and students facing cuts at North Island College. VIU and NIC have a friendly rivalry, but more importantly, we each serve as access-focused post-secondary institutions for portions of Vancouver Island north of Victoria.
The list of program suspensions is long. And unfortunately includes some skills in my field… but they are generally... broad cuts. I've included the list below.
The #BCNDP Government seems perfectly ok with post-secondary institutions in BC going through the worst cuts in at least 25 years (my career) and I would dare say - ever.

The NDP Leadership race is heating up now that the deadline for membership signups is only two weeks away (Jan 28).
Leah Gazan, MP for Winnipeg Centre, and Anjali Appadurai, former BC NDP Leadership candidate who scared the #BCNDP so bad they had to disqualify her from the race, have both today announced their support for Avi Lewis as NDP Leadership candidate. I believe Appadurai has been working in Lewis’ campaign since the beginning.
Both of these women are strong NDP leaders with deeply progressive followers, young and old.

PPS: Domestic enrolment is not declining in any significant kind of way in the sector. From the “State of Post Secondary Education in Canada 2025” by Alex Usher:
"This decline in per-student funding is therefore not primarily a result of a significant decline in total funding; rather, it is a result of expenditures remaining more or less
constant while enrollments increased.”
