If you have an opportunity to visit a freshly-burned forest, look for pyrophilic beetles (e.g., certain species in Sericoda, Melanophila, Monochamus) and flies (Microsania). Tiny pteromalid, possibly Dinarmus basilis, that emerged from my collection of eastern redbud seeds. The species is a known parasitoid of the bruchid that eats these seeds. #wasps #dinarmus #insects #chalcidoidea #redbud #bruchidae #beetles #entomology #nature #biology

I think this is Pyropyga decipiens, a tiny firefly in one of the lineages in which adults have evolutionarily lost the ability to flash. The larvae are still bioluminescent. #insects #beetles #fireflies #lightningbugs #lampyridae #nature
