Flat tire. Had to wait for the rescue brigade (wife in station wagon).

Someone said there’s a huge difference between going 20mph and 28mph on a bike. I completely agree.

First day without rain.
Right after work we brought our car to some maintenance and drove back by bike. Well not the direct way, but a fun way 😊
It felt really good!

Public service announcement: if you have a #bike with a carbon belt, take a minute to check the tension (there's an app). It makes a world of difference...
Bike Friends, uhhh… my wheel fell off? The fork slid apart. How much of a concern is this? I rode with no issues but I do hang my bike by the front tire all the time.

Damn, this ebike things is actually pretty cool. I did my normal ride in the cemetery without using the motor and my stats are pretty damn close to my acoustic rides.
I’m probably going to have a lot to say about it this week.

I had an air filter attached to the rear of my #Kombi, and then I realized that I couldn't shift. One of the cords that I had used to secure the hepa filter was on the derailleur. It was an easy thing to fix, but it reminded me just how much I hate derailleurs (and any kind of external gears in general).
Bike Month is back, and that means it's time for Pedal Poll! We're counting usage of active transit (and adjacent) facilities along corridors in our cities next week.
If you have 2 hours to spare, sign up for a shift!

Somehow I managed 9.54 miles today in 48 minutes with an average speed of 12mph... I guess I made up for yesterday when I only did 4 indoor miles.

Nice wee ride out to @… today, had a good blether, and back by Castle Douglas where I picked up 25 Kg of cattle sweeties, 20 litres of fuel for the sawmill, and about 20Kg of groceries. 42 mile round trip.
The big bike is an awesome beast!

I had to change both tires on the 50 year old Raleigh and it was a bit of a pain but it’s up and rolling again. Too hot to ride now though… might give it a spin in the morning.

For East Harlem, there are two alignment scenarios
1) Seaward
2) Landward
For waterfront greenway interested folks #bikeNYC #NYC , the seaward seems like an option w space for a bike road between the highway and East/Harlem Rivers. Plus there is a bigger area of reduced flood risk w seaward.

Somehow we made this part of the Queensboro Bridge worse. This is a 3-4ft wide two-way bike lane. There's so much wrong with this, from the metal manhole cover taking up almost the entire width of the bike lane, to the MUTCD-violating usage of sharrows, to those shitty rumble strip/speed bump things THAT ARE LOOSE.

I had to pedal like crazy the last half mile to keep my average speed at 12mph…

23km bike ride today, to one town over, stopped for coffee, got my brows done, and dropped the bike at a shop for some long-overdue maintenance. Need to replace the chain, worn cassette, stretched brake cables, and clean a winter's worth of road grime out of every crevice.
That'll take a week, so bussed home. Got another coffee across the street while waiting 3 minutes for a transfer.
Good day.

Yesterday we received Auchencairn Climate Transition's new hand-cycle (ours is the yellow one), and I got shown around the key points of maintaining it and adapting it to fit riders. This extends our hire bike fleet so that we can now support riders with leg function impairments.
In practice we'll be sharing this with other 'try a bike' projects locally.

I am hoping to do 1,000 miles on the bike this year. It's still June and I'm at 650 (surpassing the 620 for all of 2024.) I also did 120 this month which is the most miles I've done in a single month. I am glad I started riding and try to do it daily.

I rode my bike 600 miles in 2024 and it's June 1st, 2025 and I'm over 500 miles for this year!
My goal for 2025 is 1,000 miles which I think is still doable as long as I don't have any injuries (sigh) and nothing else goes wrong.

Cycling question: trying out saddles, in the UK
UK cycling people, is there somewhere you'd go to sit on different saddles to test if they're comfortable? Is that a thing?
I've worked out that my (default came-with-the-bike) saddle isn't the right shape for me: it's giving me an achy tailbone, as well as I think being a bit too narrow for optimal sit-bone comfort.
For context, I'm an "occasional cyclist for pleasure and/or practical reasons", shall we say. No ambition to be super fast.
Looking around online, I think I want something more like the Rido R2 or one of the Selle ones, shaped to have air under the tailbone area. Or maybe even a noseless one like the Spongy Wonder, though I don't like the look of how the metal frame sticks out at the front of those.
What's the chances a shop would have more than one of those and a willingness to get them out for a test sit? Or, better still, is there a loan scheme anywhere, so you can actually "test drive" them for a bit? Or do people usually just buy and be willing to sell again?
I'm in Nottingham, and I know there are bike shops I could get to, but I'm not seeing "come in and try all these saddles, we'll help you to find the right one" kinds of messaging.
Could also potentially travel elsewhere at some point if it turns out there's some kind of "best place in the country for that question".
Advice welcome!

I definitely did not expect to get in 11 miles today! It's getting pretty warm/hot in the mornings though. I was out at 6:30am and that was even a bit too warm.

Went to the bike shop last night (the family owned shop where I know the guy) and he showed me a flyer I made like 35 years ago and said it's been on the wall there for decades!

Finally whole again. Picked up a new refurb bike from revolve reCYCLING, highly recommend for anyone in Sydney.
Pictured in background, my beloved retro aluminium frame steed also from revolve. Alas, time has taken it's toll and the metal of the fear fork fractured. Looking to have it welded back together shortly.

13.78 miles today because I got less than 5 hours of sleep so I was up and out early. 172 miles for the month (the most ever!) and just over 700 for the year so far.

Today’s ride was tough but I got in 12 miles and saw a bird… I did see another large bird and a baby rabbit but didn’t get photos.

I rode my bike to the library to return a book, which isn't terribly exciting, but I'm pleased that I can now take care of local errands by bike instead of car.

Today's bike ride was 8 miles but whatever the crazy thing is that I saw a guy get chased off the Menomonee River Parkway by a turkey! It chased him into the road, and he was running down the middle of the road and a car had to stop!

Riverwest 24 is next weekend. I thought about tossing my bike in the car and driving down to do some laps but then realized it's like 5 miles from my house so I'll just bike down there and do laps, hang out, etc.

It’s been awhile since I did a “fast as I can” cemetery ride and I was amazed at my average speed. I kept it going on the streets a bit more to do 8 miles total.

I hit 80 miles on my bike this month (yay!) but this morning was weird! I'm typically very careful, but three cars came way too close to me, or made bad turns near me.
I got home and realized I forgot to turn on my lights before I rode! Maybe lights really do make a huge difference.

Today’s ride was 8.3 miles… nothing too exciting to report. (In other news I’ve been relearning SQL to pull data from the RunGap SQLite database.)

I took the old 1970's Raleigh out this morning and it was creaky and had problems shifting, but it was also sort of a fun ride!
I only did about 1.5 miles and when I got home I realized the tires were low... like a lot more low than I think they should have been since I filled them three days ago.
Anyway, I may try to make the ride a bit smoother and see if I can get the shifting working better.
Great ride today as I’m finally back home after being in Scotland for a week.

Pretty boring route this morning but I got in 9.5 miles which is a lot for a weekday morning... I then did some relief prints and got ready for work so that was the "relaxing" part of the day I guess.
