Just came across this in #TheEconomist. I knew that the #Japanese #birth rate was low, but this shows it's going to get worse because the size of the childbearing cohort is about to start shrinking…

Chart of population versus age for Japan. The chart shows a big bulge in their 50s, then a sharp decline to the 20s and 30s, then another ongoing decline through 0-20. The proportion aged under 10 is about half that of those in their 50s.

Talking of #birthdays, in #India they're celebrated on one of three days:
- day and month on Gregorian calendar; most common
- day and month on lunar calendar; "traditional folks"
- day when moon aligns with birth star in the lunar birth month; "traditional west coast folks, in the south"
