grapes picked! not a whole lot on the bottom vines as those are just new the past year since we trimmed everything way back when we redid the fence last fall.
Bin is not quite full. Will be plenty for a dozen or more jars of juice!

the deck is cleared! A fair amount on the ground but π€·ββοΈ what can ya do :) The bin is about half full! Not quite as
many as last year I think, but that was expected as we trimmed the vine and encouraged it to lengthen over the whole deck this year. A couple of branches have nearly made it to the end! It
should be basically fully
covered next year!

do you do the hard part of a job first, or last. I am a first, kind of guy. So the big ladder is out to get the tall part of the arbour and over the stairs.
The nice thing about the arbour is it is sort of split up into quadrants. Makes it feel like you have are making progress as each one gets cleared!
I need to work on my aim. I also can't eat too many of these grapes, they are So sweet and so juicy that they kind of are too much π.
Will make excellent juice tho!! (they are not the right kind for wine, and I donβt trust my skills for that anyway π· π€ͺ)

remember our little arbutus tree? It is not little! It is probably 12ft tall now and I am managing it so it can have a long trunk up beside the fence and then leaf and branch out above it! It is such a beast but so beautiful. I love arbutus trees!!
Today's main chore is to pick all of the grapes. π Mainly purple concord grapes that I will juice tomorrow! They can't sit picked for more than a day or they start to go bad, especially with how late we are picking them!
And I would be remiss if I did not mention the biggest tree we have! The hazelnut has come through all the disturbance in the backyard really well. It was and is absolutely pakced with nuts. The birds and squirrels and raccoons and humans have all had a go.
I am really looking forward to next year when all of these trees get much less disturbance and much more love and attention! β€οΈ
never really thought of myself as a gardener, but the pandemic, and my age, has helped that along i guess. :)

Picking time! π π
I have been so focused on the #poolpond and #greenhouse the past three months that I haven't posted about the fruit trees in a long time!
We also haven't had time to pick our apples from our amazing and very happy Blushing Delight apple tree bought at Walmart of all places!
Did that just now. The apples are huge and beautiful and so tasty!
Our other apple tree, the northern spy, had a much rougher go this year. It was damaged by rutting deer last year and I think that really set it back.
It had a hard time waking up this spring and only set a few flowers and produced just one apple compared to the previous year when it produced a ton like the other tree.
It struggled through the dry summer as much as I could water it.
It has a few new leaves popping out this month and one hopeful bunch of flowers, but I worry about it next year! Fingers crossed it gets through the El NiΓ±o winter!
The plum tree in the back is doing great. We got a few plums, should get a lot
more next year. Ill give it a good pruning to decide what direction it grows but it has started well!
continued....
