Apparently the US government departments are starting to join Bluesky and are getting ratioed in that the accounts are being blocked more than they are followed.
Doesn't really seem to make sense at first. The US Department Of Transportation isn't going to show up as a reply guy in your mentions and the spooks aren't going to use that account to spy on your posts.
Is the blocking then entirely performative? Because blocks are public they are votes?
I guess really it's people deliberately reading the recommended-for-you AI-driven slop feeds.
Blocked users won't show up in your machine-learning robot-recommended feeds that people apparently must be reading over there.
Just not-following would be enough for me, I don't see things I don't follow. But if you read the robot-DJ feeds then anything can show up, so you have to preemptively block it. If only to train the robot shuffle.

As I currently understand it, #BlueSky is structured a bit like the FediVerse, but uses the #ATprotocol not ActivityPub.
Most people are on bsky.social, but you don't have to be. How are the non-bsky.social 'instances' run? Where are the Ts&Cs for federating? Is it possible to sidestep BlueSky Moderation policies by joining a different 'instance'? Is that partly what #BlackSky is?

I would just like to express solidarity with trans folks on #bluesky and others who are being suspended on that corporate platform for "wishing ill will" on J.K. Rowling.
Rowling is an objectively terrible human being that has repeatedly expressed discriminatory and disgusting opinions towards trans people.

I was thinking of #Bluesky as not-Twitter, i.e., commercial but free of the RW nazi-adjacent stuff, & run by well-intentioned people. I was forgetting that it is a US-based VC-funded corp. I imagine there are all sorts of crazy pressures on it to buckle under MAGA rule, and that e.g., Charlie Kirk stuff was a lightning rod.
