An interdisciplinary research team at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) has developed a hook-and-loop fastening system for buildings in the ReCon project together with company partners. This allows different parts of a building to be resiliently connected and, if necessary, easily separated from each other.

A concrete building has a large cantilevered section that juts out from a tower in the back and is supported on two legs, one of which has a big notch visible from the front. At the bottom a door opens onto a patio, the cantilevered part has two layers of window, a big wide one at the bottom and a set of subdivided smaller ones above and the bottom of the cantilevered section is covered by a grid that has numerous lights with a shimmering pattern

In the far distance there is a striking five story high building in two-point perspective on the side of a straight river-like body of water. The building is surrounded by trees on both sides. When temperatures get too hot to handle, most of us crank up the air conditioning to keep cool. It does the job, but it's expensive and uses a significant amount of energy. But now an innovation by scientists, primarily from Southeast University in China, could help us cut our reliance on AC. They've developed a new type of cement that allows buildings to stay cool on their own. Their research is published in the journal Science Advances.

A huge clump of petunias mostly fills the lower left 1/4 of the frame, a similar clump can be seen further away and behind both of those a flagpole with an American and POW/MIA flag and a small historic brick building with a square footprint seen corner-on. Behind it all a blue sky with high-altitude clouds with power lines that don't quite meet at a 90 degree angle because I used a wide angle lens and I was looking up from the ground.
