I respect Kelly Hrudey a lot. He has always been very open about his own mental health struggles and used his platform to advocate for people to take mental health seriously, with compassion and care.
No surprise Rogers would not renew his contract.
Hockey is essentially dead in Canada now as a national pastime. It is for the wealthy. Hockey will still be important, but it’s really just one of many sports now that we have to choose to pay to watch. It costs a fortune to play.
The day the CBC gave up being the prime sports broadcaster in Canada, with Hockey Night in Canada broadcast every Saturday for decades, was the day we lost a unifying force in this country. Remember when Carney said he’d help the CBC out? Haha. Whatever.
