Fiona had a very busy caturday and then today we had mandatory overtime for her - it’s the family holiday cookie baking day so she has to supervise 10 people baking in her kitchen.
Here she is squeezing in a break while a batch is in the oven.

Even mythical creatures need their naps. Though we can only see two heads of the Hydra in this image, its slumber allowed us to venture close and grab this image before fleeing. Born of the fearsome pair Typhon and Echidna, the Hydra remains there still, guarding the entrance to the couch. #CatsOfMastodon

We don't allow cats on our dinner table, and they full well know that (their punishment when caught is corporal cuddling).

In honour of #Caturday, today's post is about the little known Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary that existed from 1955 to 2013. It was a feline colony for a group of strays living on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, in a sanctuary set aside for them. The care of the cats and maintenance of the sanctuary was carried out by volunteers, and the effort was funded by donations.
Cats were brought into Parliament in 1924 to deal with a "mild plague" of rats and mice in the basement of the then brand-new Centre Block. The numbers of rodents soon fell, but when the unneutered cats began to multiply, they were banished to the outdoors overnight in the same year. In 1955, the cats were replaced by chemicals and no longer allowed access to the Parliament buildings, but the sanctuary was set aside for their colony, and volunteers looked after them for the next 6 decades.

I just realised that the distress my #cat expressed earlier when I stepped out to the supermarket for a few minutes wasn’t separation anxiety—it was that I hadn’t left the TV on for him to watch.
My wife was still home, and would’ve worked it out eventually, but it’s interesting that he sees me as the gets-shit-done human.
