1. SMITHSONIAN

President Donald Trump escalated his rhetoric about the Smithsonian Institution on Tuesday, alleging that its museums were too focused on the negative aspects of US history, including "how bad slavery was." The comments, which he posted on his social media site, came a week after the White House ordered a review of the Smithsonian's museums and exhibits "to ensure alignment with the President's directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narrative…

I monitor connections from countries on my #tor snowflake proxy. Here are charts showing selected countries from last 7 days. Guess when Iran cut internet totally for their people.
Interesting thing is that connections labeled as US or DE look very similar, is this related to using VPN by those ppl or something?

Chart showing connections count from 4 countries, DE, US, RU, IR from last 7 days. All except RU seem to have stopped connecting yesterday.

Since the UK and to an extant the EU governments like age verification so much and asking for photo ID from people for using the internet, how long until the provider that handles these verifications has a data breach?
Of course, the politicians will be fine, they probably all have their VPN apps which have likely been filed as an expense somewhere.

The image is a four-panel comic strip featuring characters from "The Simpsons." The main subject or focal point is Lisa Simpson, who is depicted in the first and third panels. The key action or setting is a classroom where Lisa is answering a question posed by her teacher, Edna Krabappel.

The comic strip tells a story about Lisa's response to a question about installing a dictatorship, which leads to her being accused of censorship. The humor lies in the unexpected twist and the absurdity of t…

Content warning: UK police suppression of support for Palestine

UK police conflating "support for Palestine" with "support for proscribed group Palestine Action".
When they passed that law, I _thought_ things might slide this way at some point!
"In the encounter, which she filmed, one officer told her: “Mentioning freedom of Gaza, Israel, genocide, all of that all come under proscribed groups, which are terror groups that have been dictated by the government.”
"He went on to say that the phrase “Free Gaza” is “supportive of Palestine Action”, adding it was an offence “to express an opinion or belief that is supportive of a proscribed organisation, namely Palestine Action is an offence under section 12(1A) of the Terrorism Act”. The officer told her she had committed that offence."
Starmer & co really need to speak out if this _wasn't_ exactly what they wanted to have happen :-/

Sue Parfitt / Palestine Action / UK censorship
"An 83-year-old retired priest has been arrested for defying a newly enforced ban on pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action, just hours after the group was formally outlawed by the UK government.
"The Reverend Sue Parfitt, from Bristol, was detained for holding a placard that read: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” She was among more than 27 people arrested on Saturday for acts of defiance against the proscription."

Palestine Action / UK censorship
Good article from @….
"While the groups actions may constitute criminal damage, their actions do not represent an attempt to induce fear in the population by creating an imminent threat to life. ...
"Proscribing Palestine Action as terrorists is not about public safety – it is about suppressing protest that we may disagree or agree with, but that stands well short of being an attempt to strike fear into the British public through the use of indiscriminate violence against people. In equating support of damage to military property with support of terrorism, it endangers legitimate debate about the UK-Israel arms trade. ...
"As there is no public evidence of any link to terrorism or support of terrorist groups from Palestine Action, Open Rights Group supports their decision to appeal proscription. While we may have differing opinions on their tactics, we stand against this attack on their right to exist and speak out."
