these two major fires happened nine days apart. Either one could have come into town with the right conditions. We are having a community meeting on Wednesday to go over what happened last year. It's going to be interesting and probably pretty emotional. Rightly so.
I honestly think a big reason why most of the Liberal Party just doesn't get it is because they are centered in urban and sub urban Ontario and don't have to worry about their homes burning down every year.
And allow me to just stop you right there before you say this is normal for our neck of the woods.
Fires? sure. Fires that threaten towns on Vancouver Island. No. Never. Not in my lifetime. Nor anyone elses.

When my house burns down in a climate change- accelerated fire, will I be allowed to vote for someone other than the Liberals without the "but you'll just elect a Conservative" or "but the economy" bullshit?

P.S. And this is not a rhetorical question, we have had 3 major fires within 20km of our home in the past 3 years. We have been protected by geography, BCWildfire, and luck.

Perhaps those "skeptics", like the "climate skeptics" we have also endured over 20 years, weren't actually "skeptical" at all. They were just fossil fuel industry talking heads and plants, paid or brain washed or both to ensure Fossil Fuels were never without a cheerleader.

Weather radar research, observation stations, Weatheradio services and frontline meteorological staff are essential public safety tools, particularly for rural, remote and Indigenous communities;
Recent and proposed reductions to ECCC staffing, research capacity, and public weather services risk weakening Canada’s ability to predict, monitor, and respond to dangerous weather events;
Reliable weather forecasting and climate science are vital to emergency preparedness, transportation safety, agriculture, marine operations and public confidence; and
Canadians deserve a strong, modern and fully supported public weather service.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to
1. Reverse cuts to Environment and Climate Change Canada that impact weather forecasting, meteorological research and climate science;
2. Restore and maintain Weatheradio and other accessible public alert systems;
3. Protect and expand weather observation and climate monitoring stations across Canada;
4. Ensure adequate staffing and long-term funding for ECCC programs, scientists, meteorologists and technical experts; and

Judith Curry is possibly the most confusing and infuriating scientist in the entire climatological arena. She contributed to major understandings around the changes in the jet stream, the Arctic, and other processes that helped explain the impact climate change has already had on our day to day weather.
But then she left academia and essentially became a mouthpiece for Neo-denialism, claiming others were being “alarmist” and that while CO2 was the main cause, we really shouldn’t be spending money on reducing emissions.
Her final blog announcing its retirement is an interesting combination of declaring victory, mostly thanks to Trump and his acolytes (like Carney) who have pivoted fully into the arms of the fossil fuel industry, and declaring she was tired of it all and just wants to be in her garden and stop the flow of now $16,000 (!!) to maintain her Wordpress blog for the past 15 years.
She has done real damage to efforts to stop CO2 emissions. But another part of me wonders if this is an admission of guilt. Very often people come to a point, even subconsciously, where they realize they’re in with the wrong crowd.
I wonder if she has had that moment with Trump. She probably thinks it’s all irrelevant and out of her hands now. Other players, namely the oil industry, Trump, Putin, etc. will decide what happens and scientists like her will have no impact.
I am glad she is tapping out, as so many deniers inevitably do, but it is clear she is doing it because she thinks she’s won, and that is very very bad for the world.
