Had an #acting #coaching client read some new material, and already could sense some of the depths they get to with it, which has me excited for what they find with it. Even in an ice cold reading, the resonances are real.

Had an #acting #coaching client get some material into their physical self more (as opposed to their mind) and we did a couple takes that had new ways for the crux of the scene to play. So cool to see that whole other way of engaging.

Had an #acting #coaching client do a physical rehearsal technique I sometimes use, and immediately their upper spine changed and their voice shifted really nicely. Next take after the technique: the change partly remained, clarifying things as I'd hoped. Satisfying.

With an #acting #coaching client we discovered underlying sadness in the scene on one rehearsal. So had them play opposite: envision a joyful future for the character, and go again. We saw a matter-of-fact optimism wrap around that sadness in a really cool counterpoint.

Started working with an #acting #coaching client on making quick acting choices well. In about 15 minutes we got a sequence to poignance such that I really wanted to see what happens to the character next and wanted to help them. So good to see quick work land.

Gave an #acting #coaching client a very specific, even narrow note for a next take, and they brought a specificity to how they were entreating the other character that was new, and cool. Almost always: specific is more fun and interesting than vague.

With an #acting #coaching client, we tried what we thought was the opposite intent of the scene. Remarkably, we found the writing not only tolerated it, but allowed a wider scope of feelings and goals than we'd first assumed. Cool discovery.

Worked with #acting #coaching client on new material. 3rd run thru: a single change, they started to connect to the root of the character, and I could see what props would support their work in a final production, like they were there. Cool reality distortion field.

Spoke with an #acting #coaching client about artistic satisfaction. One can act for a brief period without any, but sort of like gas in a tank, if it's lacking enough, long enough, it gets very tough to keep doing this. Valid to find it, even outside of formal jobs.
