Pesto-making day. The basil and garlic are ours, the sunflower and pumpkin seeds and the olive oil (duh) are from the store.

Fruit stone vinegar.
The next time you have a bunch of peaches, plums, or cherries, instead of throwing out the pits, toss them in some white vinegar instead. Three to four weeks later you'll have a new ingredient in the kitchen. The odor and flavor are remarkably fruity.
