RE: #cybernerics at this...
Capitalism uses markets as an evolutionary algorithm that evolves functions that turn all the complexity of the world into a single variable across a continuum of "line go up/line go down." Everything that can't be translated is helpfully thrown away.
Almost every problem we face in the world today (looking right at you, climate change), comes either directly or indirectly from the lack of verity and the omission of this out of band data.
False scarcity is a capitalist tool to manage externalities, and it doesn't work. I'm not saying this can't help, but there are so many ways to game the solution that it's not even funny.
The market incentivizes optimization that omits (what it considers) spurious data. So if there is a way to abuse the system, the system will find a way to abuse it.
You can't solve this problem inside of capitalism (nor within the apparatus of any state), and trying to do so will ultimately be subverted by markets. Evolutionary algorithms are extremely powerful things, even very simple ones. The problem is that the algorithm lacks the complexity to solve it, so it will evolve systems that find ways to omit extraneous signals.
It's unfortunate, because the problem is right and the solution seems like it could fit. But I don't think it can. It also omits invisible labor, which is just a thing you inherit when you use capitalism (or any implicitly patriarchal system).
