I thought the Viet Nam and Iraq wars were the worst until the past 1.5 years.
Watching the country slide into dictatorship now tops the worst side of my list.

I get that everyone loves the guillotine imagery right now, but it's probably worth reminding everyone that The Terror wasn't a leftist thing. It was a centrist thing. The French Revolution wasn't a socialist revolution, it was a Liberal revolution. The Jacobins were radical liberals.
There's an ideological rythme and meter that flows through history. Where Robespierre killed those to his right but killed far more to his left, so has the Liberal state always done exactly the same. And where the result of murdering away the left ended with a reactionary dictatorship in France, so has the American Revolution ultimately played out more slowly but with the same results. Not with guillotines but with prisons, not with the Committee of Public Safety but with the FBI and COINTELPRO.
