I saw weather alerts today warning of hail the size of ping-pong balls, golf balls, or loonies ($1 cdn). I can imagine how big the last one is - I have a coin in my pocket - but have absolutely no idea what the difference between the three is. How is this information useful? Why not just say "big hail"?
