Some of my favourites from the Whistler exhibition at Tate Britain. It's pretty cool to see all these in person. Whistler's mother is there too, but you know what that one looks like, right? #art #painting #exhibitions…

The Coast of Brittany (Alone with the Tide) 1861 A rocky sand beach with the sea breaking against the shore hidden beyond. On the left a woman lies propped against a rock, dressed in a puritanical black with white bonnet and shawl
Symphony in White, No. 3, 1865-7 Two young women in full length, white dresses lie on, and in front of, a white chaise lounge . They are the very definition of languorous.
Crepuscule in Pink and Green: Valparaiso - 1866 A twilight painting of a fleet of thistle ships, some at anchor, in a wide bay. The sea is luminous and pale. The sky above is fading.
Red and Black: The Fan (Edith Birnie Philip) - 1891-6 A woman in a fine red and black dress, full length, looks towards the viewer, head slightly back in a confident pose. The brush strokes have an unfinished quality, loose and impressionistic, but the subject's form is very well defined.

I visited an #art #exhibition of some works by #German artist Robert Andreas Drude who, among other things, merges disparate paintings to create interesting new work, like this "Bergpfad" mixed with Kitchen Maid. 🖼️
